Lo-Ellen Park partners with Home Instead to present Seniors Prom

Home Instead Senior Care and Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School have partnered to host their first annual Senior Prom. The prom will take place at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

The event will feature music, the Sudbury Swing Dancers, a photo booth, the crowning of a prom King and Queen, spot dances, prizes and more. Tickets are only $1 and can be purchased at the Home Instead Office or the ParkSide Centre. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.

Colleen Gauvreau, a student in Lo-Ellen Park’s Leadership class, is organizing the event. “I am very excited to provide an opportunity for seniors in our community to experience a night out with family and friends,” she said. “The Senior Prom will take participants back in time to the 1940s and 1950s. It is an excellent way for youth to interact and build relationships with all members of our community”.

Intergenerational activities are an important focus for the Age-Friendly Community Strategy set out by the City of Greater Sudbury’s Seniors Advisory Panel. According to the City of Greater Sudbury website, “age-friendly communities encourage healthy aging by improving and preserving health; physical, social and mental wellness; independence and quality of life.”

“We love creating new and exciting events that give back to our community,” said Lisette Wirta, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care® office serving Sudbury and the North. “For spring, we wanted to create an event with an intergenerational twist. Our local high school is so excited to be part of organizing this event and the students are participating one hundred per cent.”

The Home Instead Senior Care office is currently looking for prizes, sponsors and community outreach for the upcoming Seniors Prom. Seniors are encouraged to buy a ticket, dress up and come out for a fun filled night. For more information or details, please contact the local Home Instead Senior Care office at www.homeinstead.ca.
