Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School students and staff raised $7,700 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation this year. This brings the school’s two-year total for their charity of choice to just over $13,000.

Students canvassed their school community for donations in February. “We thank everyone who gave generously when students went door-to-door during Heart Month,” says Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School Principal Craig Runciman.

In addition to the evening canvassing, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School hosted a “Hoops for Heart” basketball tournament. Each participant raised a minimum of $50 in order to take part in the competition.

“In Rainbow Schools, character education is an important part of everything that we do as we give students opportunities to develop leadership and citizenship skills,” says Principal Runciman. “Our students and staff care about the community in which they live and want to do their part to promote healthy living. Supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation not only raises funds for an important cause, it also increases awareness.”

Principal Runciman commended the students and staff of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School for their impressive efforts. “We look forward to building on our success in the future, as we continue to give back to our community.”
