Lo-Ellen Park student selected to perform in Ontario Provincial Honour Band
Xuan Han, a Grade 11 student at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, has been selected to perform in the prestigious Ontario Provincial Honour Band this fall. This is the second year in which Xuan Han has successfully auditioned for this concert band, which brings together 50 of Ontario’s most gifted student musicians.
“Xuan Han is a talented musician and we congratulate him on his outstanding achievement,” said Craig Runciman, Principal of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School. “We are delighted that he will, once again, have an opportunity to perform at the provincial level and engage with other students who share his passion for music.”
The students will gather in Guelph on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 to rehearse. On Friday, November 4th, they will present two concerts in Newmarket. On Saturday, November 5th, they will perform at the Ontario Music Educators’ Association conference in Huntsville.
“The Ontario Provincial Honour Band provides an intensive learning and performing experience for the musicians involved, resulting in a chain reaction that allows many more students, teachers and musicians across the province to be positively affected through the power of music,” said Band Director Scott Harrison. “The band provides a connection for school music communities across the province, bringing together students who identify music as part of who they are as individuals.”
As a member of the band, Xuan Han will participate in a week of team building, where participants are challenged to reach new heights as musicians, teammates and leaders. “All of these are character traits and skills that newly inspired Ontario Provincial Honour Band participants will take home to their respective classrooms, communities and ensembles,” said Harrison.
Xuan Han is a member of the Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School concert band and jazz combo. He plays the flute.
