Lo-Ellen Park students dominate at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School athletes sprinted their way to the top of the charts at the OFSAA Track and Field Championships which took place from June 5 to 7, 2025 at York University in Toronto.
Following a record-breaking season, Lo-Ellen athletes took home a number of individual and team accolades including the Overall Combined Team Championship title.
How did they do it? By accumulating more total points than any other school in Ontario.
“This is a truly historic accomplishment,” said Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “To be the best track and field team in Ontario is an outstanding achievement. Sincere congratulations to coach Colin Ward, staff coaches, community coaches, and the athletes from Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School.”
At the championships, Lo-Ellen students reached the podium 10 times – garnering an impressive three gold, one silver and six bronze medals as well as a number of notable placements.
“Beyond their obvious physical talents, this group of athletes excel because they recognize the importance of controlling the controllables,” said teacher and coach Colin Ward. “They embrace discipline, whether it’s sleep, nutrition, warm-ups, mindset or recovery, and take ownership of the little things – understanding that they can add up to big results.”
He added: “In a sport where success is measured in centimetres and seconds, students have come to understand that every habit, every choice and every single moment counts.”
In track and field, athletes who place in the top eight earn points for their team. This season, Lo-Ellen athletes earned 1,178 points at the SDSSAA Championships – a city record for total team points. They also set another total team record with 784 points secured at NOSSA.
“To put this into perspective, two years ago, we had two Lo-Ellen finalists at OFSAA,” said coach Colin Ward. “Last year, we had seven finalists and two top three finishes. This year, we had 22 finalists and 10 medal performances. It’s been amazing to watch them, and a real honour to be alongside them for the journey.”
“I am continually amazed at the athleticism displayed by our track and field athletes,” said Principal Pamela Potvin. “On behalf of the entire school community, I extend congratulations to this highly decorated group of athletes for another outstanding season. Go Knights!”
