Lockerby Composite School hosts Open House for Grade 8 students on January 16th
Lockerby Composite School offers programming in English and French Immersion from Grades 9 to 12, and is home to the Science and Technology Education Program (STEP).
“STEP’s exciting changes ensure that our programming remains relevant and responsive to give our students an exceptional and enriching educational experience,” says Principal Ryan Lafraniere. “STEP courses run from September to June, allowing for Integration Days that feature community mentorships and experiential learning opportunities. Students become part of unique specialization studies in their senior years.”
In STEP, students learn while experimenting, analyzing, designing, and building. Students develop their technological building skills, learn about the engineering design process, and are given time to create, invent, design, and construct porotypes to solve complex problems in real-life settings.
Students who qualify for STEP receive transportation to and from school.
“During the Open House, prospective students, whether part of STEP or not, will be able to speak to current Viking students and staff while touring our facilities,” said Principal Lafraniere. “Families will be able to see and feel how Lockerby Composite School creates a strong sense of belonging for all students. Everyone is welcome.”
At Lockerby, students enjoy a variety of programs and opportunities that allow them to showcase their artistic, musical and athletic expression.
Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM) are available to students in four sectors including Health and Wellness – Health Service; Information and Communications Technology – Software, Digital Media and Computer Systems; Mining – Engineering; and Non-Profit – Community Fundraising/Environmental Sustainability.
Lockerby Composite School is located at 1391 Ramsey View Court in Sudbury.
