Lockerby Composite School will present teacher Ashley Fraser’s theatrical adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince on Friday, May 30th and Saturday, May 31st, 2014, at 7:30 pm in the D.K. MacKellar Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and are available at the school or at the door.
This show is for all ages and has much to offer in the way of life lessons. "The whole piece is outstanding,” said Devyn Bolger who plays the Little Prince. “It’s inspirational, touching, and heartwarming. We have learned so many things from this phenomenal piece."
The third most translated story in the world, The Little Prince is undoubtedly a classic. While considered a children’s story, everyone can learn from the lessons imparted by The Little Prince.
“The Little Prince brings into perspective what truly is important,” said Director Ashley Fraser. “Not money, fame, or even power, but the little things such as friendship, love, and beauty. He reminds us to work less and play more, to care about quality not quantity, and to always open our hearts to others. That is the key to true happiness.”
“We’ve definitely learned a lot,” said Jenny Fenton, student and assistant stage manager. “We’ve learned how important deeds and actions are, and how these things can reveal the true heart of people more than words can.”
Ashley Fraser’s vision for this show pulls out some key elements of the script and goes to town with them. This show relies heavily on an ensemble of students who are part of the set, from stars to sunsets, trees, and even sand dunes. The set is portrayed through a child’s imagination.
The Little Prince is Ashley Fraser’s 10th production with Lockerby Composite School’s extra-curricular theatre department and promises to be more than just a high school play. The students involved with this particular production have been working tirelessly since November to bring together this heartwarming show.
