Lockerby presents Arthur’s Stone, Merlin’s Fire: The Making of a King

The curtain opens on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 7:30 pm for Lockerby Composite School’s inaugural two-act stage production of Arthur’s Stone, Merlin’s Fire: The Making of a King by Kathryn Peterson. There will also be a performance on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 7:30 pm in the McKellar Auditorium.

“The Lockerby Composite School Drama Department is pleased to present its first play,” says teacher Ashley Paige Fraser. “The students have been working diligently on stage and behind the scenes to bring this performance to life. The show will appeal to young and old alike and we certainly encourage everyone to attend.”

Arthur’s Stone, Merlin’s Fire: The Making of a King is an imaginative retelling of the Arthurian legend, set in Great Britain in 500 A.D. It is a tale of a mysterious stone that has appeared in Arthur’s village. Rumours are circulating that the man who removes the sword is destined to become King of Britain.

The production features an elaborate set, sword fights, and choreographed dance scenes. There is also a live choir directed by Lockerby’s very own vocal instructor, Sylvie Tripp.

“Magical! That is the one word I can use to describe this play,” says Principal Heather Gaffney.  “This production has given our drama students an opportunity to showcase their creativity and talent. It is an amazing show that is not to be missed!”

Tickets, at $5 for students/seniors and $8 for adults, are available at the Lockerby Composite School main office or by phoning 522-1750.
