March 5: Students participate in Rainbow District School Board Science Fair

Child Powered Resuscitation and Science or Scam are two of the topics that will be explored when students in Grades 7 to 12 participate in Rainbow District School Board’s annual Science Fair on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Some 50 projects will be featured at this year’s fair, which takes place at Lockerby Composite School in Sudbury.

The public is invited to view the projects in the Lockerby gymnasium from 12 pm to 1:30 pm. The awards ceremony will take place in the auditorium at 1:30 pm. Judges and community professionals with a science and/or engineering background will select up to 42 projects for the Sudbury Regional Science Fair being held at Laurentian University’s Alumni Hall on April 6 and 7, 2019.

“Students research specific areas of science that relate to curriculum expectations in all areas ranging from earth sciences to engineering to the environment,” said Rainbow District School Board Science Fair Chair Christine Chisholm. “Science fair projects allow students to capitalize on their instinctive curiosity to inquire and discover.”

She added: “Students actively engage in authentic learning when they investigate questions that are real. In the process, they enhance their scientific skills and further develop interests in science related careers.”

The Rainbow District Science Fair is the first step on the journey to the nationals. Sudbury Regional Science Fair projects will be selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton in May.
