March 9: Students participate in Rainbow District School Board Science Fair

Camp Stove Boil Off, Know Your Greens, Egg-Speriment and Heat Keepers are a few of the topics that will be explored when students in Grades 7 to 12 participate in Rainbow District School Board’s annual Science Fair on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Approximately 50 projects will be featured at this year’s fair, which takes place at Lockerby Composite School in Sudbury.

The public is invited to view the projects in the gymnasium at Lockerby Composite School from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. The awards ceremony will take place in the auditorium from 1:45 pm to 2:15 pm. Judges and community professionals with a science and/or engineering background will select up to 37 projects for the Sudbury Regional Science Fair being held at Laurentian University’s Alumni Hall on April 9 and 10, 2016.
 
"Students research specific areas of science that relate to curriculum expectations in all areas – engineering, earth sciences, the environment and more," says Rainbow District School Board Science Fair Chair Christine Chisholm. “Working on science fair projects allows students to capitalize on their instinctive curiosity to inquire and discover.”

She adds: “Students actively engage in authentic learning when they investigate questions that are real. In the process, they enhance their scientific skills and further develop interests in science related careers."

The Rainbow District School Board Science Fair is the first step on the journey to the nationals. Sudbury Regional Science Fair projects will be selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Montreal, Quebec in May.
