May 12: It’s Your Mamma’s Turn to Rock at Mother’s Day Concert

The Confederation Secondary School Evolutionary Band will take to the stage on Saturday, May 12, 2012, for the annual Mother’s Day Concert for the 32nd consecutive year. The concert will begin at 7 pm in the gym at Confederation Secondary School, 1918 Main Street West, in Val Caron. Doors will open at 6 pm. Listen to Q92 for a chance to win tickets.
The evening, hosted by Q92’s Terry and Mell, will kick off with In-School Suspension, a 10-piece rock band featuring Grade 6 to 8 students from Pinecrest Public School. The band plays rock and pop style music from the 80’s to the present.
"Evolutionary’s level of musicianship and technical expertise continues to be at an all-time high," says Music Director Norm McIntosh. "We look forward to another outstanding performance by the band and crew as we present our annual tribute to mothers in our community.” He adds: “Proceeds from the Mother’s Day Concert will help defray the costs of Evolutionary’s four-day tour to Southern Ontario at the end of May.”
Juno-nominated rock singer Jonas from Jonas & The Massive Attraction will attend the Mother’s Day show. His guitarist/band leader, Corey Diabo, will accompany him on his trip north. Their latest album, Big Slice, cracked the Top 15 nationally on Soundscan in the first week of sales. The title track and first single “Big Slice” hit Top 10, peaking at # 7 in January 2011 alongside some of the biggest international names in rock (Ozzy Osbourne, Kings of Leon, Three Days Grace).
“We are extremely pleased that Jonas and Corey are taking time from their busy schedule to attend Evolutionary’s concert. They will be coming off a gig in Montreal on the Friday night and flying up to Sudbury on Saturday morning just to see the band. We are especially excited to be performing their hit single ‘Big Slice’ for them,” says Norm McIntosh.
Tickets for the Mother’s Day Concert, at $12 each, are available from members of the band and crew, the main office at Confederation Secondary School, Jett Landry Music in Sudbury and Hanmer Home Hardware in the Hanmer Shopping Mall. Tickets will also be available at the door. To ensure your seats at this must-see performance, be sure to purchase your tickets early. The Mother’s Day Concert has been SOLD OUT in the past.
Evolutionary is a 23-piece rock band which includes four vocalists, an eight piece rhythm section, four trumpets, two trombones, two alto saxes and four tenor saxes and is supported by a 14 member stage crew. The band tours from March until June, performing in front of more than 8,000 students per year. Their shows include a high energy, choreographed presentation with an exciting light display including lasers, strobes, smoke machines and intelligent lighting. The band’s set runs 90 minutes and this year features an all-Canadian set-list including artists such as Danko Jones, Jonas and the Massive Attraction, Simple Plan, Our Lady Peace, Theory of a Deadman, Colin James, Bryan Adams, Rush, Hedley, Three Days Grace and Burton Cummings.
