May 27: Gatchell School hosts Special Needs Agency Fair

Gatchell School Council will host a Special Needs Agency Fair for parents of exceptional students on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. The Agency Fair will take place from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at Gatchell School.

“This is the third in a series of evening presentations for parents of exceptional students being hosted by the School Council,” says Gatchell School Principal Iva McNair. The Special Needs Agency Fair is being funded by a Parents Reaching Out grant provided by the Ministry of Education’s Parent Engagement Office.

“This event will give parents/caregivers an opportunity to meet contacts from community agencies,” she says. “Parents will gain an understanding of the support these agencies and groups can provide during school years and after graduation. We invite everyone to come visit the displays to find out what resources are available for children as they transition to workplace, independent living or further education.”

Organizations participating in the Special Needs Agency Fair include Sudbury Developmental Services, ICAN, Autism Coffee Chat, Independent Living Resource Centre, Sudbury Therapeutic Riding Program and the Sudbury & District Health Unit.

The series of presentations for parents at Gatchell School will culminate with a barbecue and Open House in September.

Gatchell School is located at 31 Tuddenham Avenue in Sudbury. From downtown Sudbury, travel west on Lorne Street, turn right on Tuddenham Avenue and turn left at the stop sign at the top of the hill.
