May 27: Rainbow Board hosts Welcome Centre Family Social for newcomers
Rainbow District School Board will host a Welcome Centre Family Social for newcomers on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 5 pm to 6:30 pm in the Sudbury Secondary School cafeteria.
English Language Teachers will join the YMCA Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) as well as the Sudbury Secondary School Multicultural Club for a fun evening.
Guests will hear inspiring stories from newcomer families as well as a special presentation from YMCA SWIS Workers that will highlight how to stay connected and active over the summer months.
Attendees will enjoy family-friendly games and language acquisition activities that they can take home. Free pizza and popcorn will also be available.
“The goal of the event is to connect newcomer families,” said Kate MacKenzie, Principal of Program for Rainbow District School Board. “We also want to showcase the many opportunities available to families throughout the summer. It’s sure to be a wonderful evening for everyone as we continue to build a warm and welcoming environment for all newcomers in our schools and communities.”
The YMCA has generously arranged for free transportation for families to and from the event through the City of Greater Sudbury’s GOVA public transit.
Sudbury Secondary School is located at 154 College Street in Sudbury.
