Rainbow Schools Celebrate Music Monday – May 5th, 2008

On Monday, May 5th, 2008 students in many Rainbow Schools will participate in special music activities designed to commemorate the 4th annual Music Monday.

Since the inaugural event in May 2005, students and teachers across Canada have come together on the first Monday in May to engage in a simultaneous public celebration of the power of music.

The goals of Music Monday are to celebrate the importance of music in our society, to demonstrate the vital role music education plays in the lives of Canadians and to encourage public support of quality music programs in public schools.

"Music Monday serves as a tangible reminder of how school music programs nurture compassionate, innovative and productive citizens," says Jean Hanson, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. "It also reminds us of the important links between school music programs and the cultural vitality of our country."

She adds: "We extend our appreciation and thanks to all of the students who have participated in special musical activities this year, to the music teachers who have organized the performances and fostered a love of music in our children, and to the parents/guardians and other public stakeholders who support the music and arts programs in Rainbow Schools."
