May 7: Bring Your Mamma and Let Her Rock at Mother’s Day Concert

On Saturday, May 7, 2011, Confederation Secondary School’s Evolutionary Band will take to the stage for their annual Mother’s Day Concert for the 31st year in a row. The concert will begin at 7 pm in the gym at Confederation Secondary School, 1918 Main Street West in Val Caron. Doors will open at 6 pm. Listen to Q92 for a chance to win tickets.

The evening, hosted by Bigtown Entertainment’s Vic Theriault, will kick off with Eddie Jeanveau, a London musician with a unique sound and a passionate stage presence. A former member of the Evolutionary Band, Eddie’s acoustic style draws on his percussion background. This rhythmic approach defines his music, giving him a distinctive sound.

A singer/songwriter of just a few years, Eddie Jeanveau is quickly demonstrating that he has the ability to reach others in a very profound and infectious way. Eddie is currently working on his debut CD “Believe in you”. He hopes to have it available sometime in 2011. "Evolutionary’s level of musicianship and technical expertise continues at an all-time high this year," says Music Director Norm McIntosh. "We look forward to another stellar performance by the band and crew as we present our annual tribute to mothers in our community.”

He added: “This group of young people has been invited by Jack Lenz of Lenz Entertainment to record at the Glenn Gould Studio located on the main floor of the Canadian Broadcasting Centre in Toronto. This superb recording studio has a reputation of offering superior sound isolation in state-of-the-art recording facilities where acoustics are ideal for classical and jazz recordings. Proceeds from the Mother’s Day Concert will help defray the costs of Evolutionary’s trip to Toronto.”

Tickets to the Mother’s Day Concert, at $12 each, are available from members of the band and crew, the main office at Confederation Secondary School, Jett Landry Music in Sudbury and Hanmer Home Hardware in the Hanmer Shopping Mall. Tickets will also be available at the door. To ensure your seats at this must-see performance, be sure to purchase your tickets early. The Mother’s Day Concert has been SOLD OUT in the past.

Evolutionary is a 26-piece rock band which includes four vocalists, an eight piece rhythm section, four trumpets, four trombones, two alto saxes and four tenor saxes and is supported by a 12 member stage crew. As Action Sudbury’s “No Drinking and Driving” Band, Evolutionary has earned a solid reputation for its dynamic performances.

The band tours from March until June, performing in front of more than 8,000 students per year. Their shows include a high energy, choreographed presentation with an exciting light display including lasers, strobes, smoke machines and intelligent lighting. The band’s set runs 80 minutes in length and includes a selection of top 40 hits of today such as Three Days Grace, Rush, Shinedown, Billy Talent, Finger Eleven, Faber Drive, Theory of a Deadman, Van Halen and more.

Here’s your chance to catch these remarkable musicians in their hometown before they leave on tour.  Norm McIntosh will be making an announcement during the concert.
