Northeastern students sell cupcakes to support local SPCA
To showcase their love for animals, Grade 4 to 6 students in the Learning Disabilities class at Northeastern Elementary School are taking part in the Ontario SPCA’s National Cupcake Day fundraiser.
On Tuesday, February 28, 2017, students will sell cupcakes for $1. The bake sale will take place outside the school cafeteria during nutrition breaks from 10:15 am to 11:30 am, and 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. All proceeds will support the Ontario SPCA Sudbury and District Animal Centre’s fight against animal cruelty.
“This entrepreneurial endeavor is entirely student driven,” says Northeastern Elementary School Principal Randy Wallingford. “Students are highly motivated to apply newly learned skills, using technology, and working collaboratively with peers to achieve their goal.”
To spread the word, students wrote letters, made announcements, designed posters and developed video messages using green screen technology. Students also created a slideshow to educate staff and students about the services the Ontario SPCA provides.
“Students have a real sense of responsibility to help local animals in need,” says Principal Wallingford. “Their passion and determination to make a difference is an exemplary demonstration of ethical citizenship.”
He adds: “On behalf of the school, I would like to extend special thanks to all staff, volunteers and parents/guardians for their help in making this fundraiser possible. Everyone is invited to enjoy a delicious cupcake and support a worthy cause.”
Northeastern Elementary School is located at 45 Spruce Street in Garson.
