What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?
October 15: Community leaders go back to school as Principal for a Day
Community leaders in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin will go back to school on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 when Rainbow District School Board presents its annual Principal for a Day program.
“The primary purpose of Principal for a Day is to link schools with the communities that they serve,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair Judy Hunda. “Community leaders will spend the day learning about the multiple roles that school principals play, from instructional leadership to the management of school facilities. In the process, they will gain a better understanding of what’s happening in Rainbow Schools.”
“Our community is keenly aware that we need an excellent educational system to prepare our future workforce and ensure our sustainability for generations to come,” said Director of Education Jean Hanson. “When the school, the home and the community work together to support success, students maximize their potential and fulfill their aspirations in learning and life. Principal for a Day is another way in which we build valuable partnerships.”
During Principal for a Day, community leaders will participate in a variety of activities. Some may visit a class, review daily attendance reports, attend staff meetings, give morning announcements, meet the Student Council or tour school grounds. Others may visit a special education class or resource room, monitor late arrivals, attend an athletic or band practice, talk about discipline issues or engage in dialogue around budgets, policies, procedures and The Education Act.
Participants will gather at the end of the day to share their experiences. “It is always heartwarming to hear the wonderful stories that emerge when community leaders go back to school for the day,” said Director Hanson.
