October 2: Sudbury Secondary School celebrates diversity with Multicultural Day

Sudbury Secondary School is proud to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of its school community during the fourth annual Multicultural Day on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The event will kick-off with a Terry Fox Run – bringing staff and students together to honour Terry’s legacy of courage, compassion, commitment and community.

Participants will walk or run around the school track to honour the Canadian spirit and shared values that unite us, while setting the stage for a day that celebrates the many cultures represented at Sudbury Secondary School.

Following the Terry Fox Run, the school will come alive with authentic culinary dishes, cultural music, activities, games, and interactive experiences that showcase the diverse backgrounds of the school population.

“This is the fourth year we’ve hosted Multicultural Day,” said Sudbury Secondary School Principal Heather Downey. “This event is one of the many ways we are creating a learning environment where students feel accepted and respected.”

Multicultural Day is made possible through the contributions of students, including Student Parliament representatives, as well as staff, families and community members. For students, the event provides an opportunity to see their cultures recognized and celebrated while learning about the diverse traditions and experiences that surround them.

“This is a day to celebrate the diversity that makes our school so special,” said Principal Heather Downey. “Students can learn something new while sharing in the cultures, traditions and perspectives that enrich our vibrant school community.”
