OFSAA Track and Field 2011 Opens Thursday in Sudbury


With regional championship entries firmed up this weekend, the stage is finally set for the 2011 OFSAA Track and Field Championship, starting Thursday at the Laurentian Community Track Complex in Sudbury.

A total of 2070 student-athletes representing 521 different high schools in Ontario have registered to participate in the three-day championship, which will consist of 104 different events.

Included in the total are 111 students from fifteen local high schools representing Sudbury hopes for OFSAA gold, led by south end stalwart and NOSSA champion Lo-Ellen Park SS with 35 entries, the second largest contingent of all schools registered at this event.

All four midget and junior individual aggregate winners from last year’s OFSAA Championship hosted in London will be returning to compete in Sudbury this year – they’ll be just a few athletes to watch as the championship begins, including:
Christian Brennan – St Mary’s (Hamilton) – Junior girls
Andre Azonwanna-Ford – J. Cardinal McGuigan (Toronto) – Junior boys
Brooke Rowland – Westside Secondary School (Orangeville) – Senior girls
Mitch O’Donnell – Forest Heights (Kitchener) – Senior boys

Pickering High School in Ajax will be looking for a three-peat in both girls and boys team aggregate honours this year and will bring a 43-athlete contingent to Sudbury in an effort to accomplish this feat.

Seeded heat sheets are now available for viewing on the official website in support of OFSAA Track and Field, and once the events commence at 3pm on Thursday, results will be uploaded in real-time from the venue, and will be accessible via the website at www.ofsaa.on.ca/track

LA COMPÉTITION DE PISTE ET PELOUSE DE LA FASSO DÉBUTE JEUDI

Avec les championnats régionaux maintenant terminés, nous avons la liste finale des athlètes qui participeront au championnat de piste et pelouse de la FASSO. La compétition débutera le jeudi 2 juin à la piste à l’Université Laurentienne à Sudbury.

En tout, 2070 athlètes-étudiants représentant 521 différentes écoles secondaires de la province participeront au championnat qui s’étend sur une durée de 3 jours.

Nous avons 111 athlètes de 15 écoles de Sudbury qui participent en vue de remporter l’or. Lo-Ellen Park S.S., l’équipe championne de NOSSA, mêne l’attaque avec 35 athlètes.

Les 4 meilleures athlètes de la compétition à London de l’an passé seront de retour encore cette  année, les voicis:

Les vagues pour les courses sont maintenant affichées au site. Les résultats seront affichés dès le début des courses le jeudi 2 juin à 15h00.
