Parents/guardians and students in Grades 7 and 8 invited to Finding your Way from Grade 8 to 9 on November 15th

Parents/guardians and students in Grades 7 and 8 are invited to an interactive information session designed to help students make key decisions in the transition from elementary school to secondary school. All students are welcome to participate along with their parents/guardians, regardless of which elementary school they currently attend.

Rainbow District School Board will present Making the Transition: Finding Your Way from Grade 8 to 9 on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the Student Centre at Cambrian College, 1400 Barrydowne Road. Parking will be free on site in Lot # 15 next to the Student Centre. This is an in-person presentation.

“The transition from Grade 8 to Grade 9 is a big step for a young person,” says Bruce Bourget, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. “We encourage students and parents/guardians to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn about secondary school programs and school life. We are here to help students make informed decisions about their future and ensure student success.”

The information session will focus on the changes, choices and challenges students face while entering high school. A number of topics will be explored, including how to read timetables, course and program selection, easing into a new school environment, skills students need to be successful, available resources and helpful tips.

Information will be provided for all pathways – independent living, work, apprenticeship, college and university. In addition to a presentation, those who attend will be able to tour booths and talk to staff about programs such as Co-operative Education.

“It’s important that students take the time to explore their options,” says Director Bourget. “Guidance staff will be on site to answer questions. Join us to explore the many exciting opportunities that await students in Grade 9 in Rainbow Schools.”

The event is supported by the Rainbow District School Board Parent Involvement Committee with funding from the Ministry of Education Parent Engagement Office.
