Parents/guardians invited to learn about impact of emotions on learning
Parents/guardians in Rainbow Schools are invited to learn about the connection between emotions and learning on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 7 pm in the Rainbow District School Board Ernie Checkeris Boardroom. The presentation is part of the first meeting of the Parent Involvement Committee for the 2018-2019 school year.
Guest speaker, Angie DeMarco of the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury, will examine a student’s ability to self-regulate while learning in a structured educational environment.
“When a child feels stressed, the brain blocks off the pathways for focus and learning,” says Angie DeMarco. “Developing the ability to self-correct negative moods and impulses allows a child the opportunity to support their own academic success.”
During her presentation, Angie DeMarco will guide parents/guardians through an investigative workshop intended to provide user-friendly techniques that will support their child’s ability to remain calm, collected and connected in the classroom.
“We invite all parents/guardians to enjoy this free presentation,” says Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Norm Blaseg. “This topic will also be of interest to administrators, teachers and support staff. Everyone is welcome.”
Angie DeMarco, Education Co-Ordinator with the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury, has shared variations of this workshop at multiple conferences across Canada including Ontario, Yukon, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Rainbow District School Board is located at 408 Wembley Drive in Sudbury.
