Photo: Copper Cliff PS celebrates Peace Tree Day

Grade 7 students from Copper Cliff Public School visited the Mayor’s Office recently for the signing of a proclamation for Peace Tree Day. Joining Mayor Marianne Matichuk were, from left, teacher Melanie Douglas and students Abby Wickie, Aurora McDougall, Rebecca Wiseman, Laiken Farmer and Isabella Grech.

Peace Tree Day, held on June 1st, 2014, empowers children and youth to build equitable, inclusive and peaceful schools and communities. It is also a time to encourage young people to share their talents and develop compassion for others, building good global citizens.

Copper Cliff Public School will honour Peace Tree Day on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 through workshops in dance, yoga, drumming, art, origami and dreamcatcher-making, culminating in a collective lunch where different types of foods will be served.

The concept of The Peace Tree evolved from the creation of The Peace Tree film by Mitra Sen.
