Special Olympic snowshoe athletes from Manitoulin Island, from left, Dayne Tipper, Kelsey Mellan, Meghan Holtze and Matt Bedard, enjoy the medal ceremony at the Special Olympics 2015 Provincial Winter Games in North Bay from January 29 to 31, 2015. These athletes were part of the North Eastern District Team coached by Judy Olacke. Team members await confirmation to participate for team Ontario at the 2016 Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, NL from February 29 to March 6, 2016. The athletes train at Manitoulin Secondary School and have experience ranging from two to 10 years competing at the Special Olympics. Dayne, Kelsey and Matt are graduates of Manitoulin Secondary School. Collectively, they have captured 6 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze and continue to bring pride to their home community at the regional, provincial, national and world levels.

Graduates of Manitoulin Secondary School captured Gold in the A Division for Curling at the Special Olympics 2015 Provincial Winter Games in North Bay from January 29 to 31, 2015. Team members included, from left, Randy Corbiere, Regan Millsap, Rebecca Strain, Jeffery Panamick, and Grade 10 student Andrew Splawnyk. Nancy Leeson and Ellen Holroyd coached the team to victory. The team joined forces in 2013 adding Jeffrey Panamick to the roster in late 2014. All but one member has been involved in the sport since 2009. The team awaits confirmation of who will compete at the National level at the 2016 Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, NL from February 29 to March 6, 2016.
