Principal appointments and transfers in Rainbow Schools

Some of the Rainbow District School Board’s elementary and secondary schools welcomed new Principals when classes resumed on Tuesday, September 1st, 2009.


Pam DeMarco   



Principal



Chelmsford Public School (JK to Grade 6 English and French Immersion)

Pam DeMarco is the new Principal of Chelmsford Public School, which offers JK to Grade 6 in English and French Immersion. Prior to her recent appointment, she served as Principal of Monetville Public School for the past five years. A versatile educator with 18 years of experience in public education locally, she has worked with students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, as a classroom teacher and school administrator.  Prior to joining the staff of Monetville Public School, she served as Vice-Principal or Lead Teacher at Jessie Hamilton Public School for three years. Principal DeMarco looks forward to working with the Chelmsford students, staff and school community partners.


Lesley Fisher

Walden Public School (JK to Grade 6 English and French Immersion)

Lesley Fisher has been appointed Principal of Walden Public School, Rainbow District School Board’s new green school in Sudbury West, which brings together students from Jessie Hamilton Public School and George Vanier Public School.  Lesley Fisher was Principal of Jessie Hamilton Public School for the past three years. She is also a resident of the Lively community. A classroom teacher since 1993, Principal Fisher taught a variety of grades in both the French Immersion and English programs prior to her appointment as a school administrator.  She is also a graduate of the Rainbow District School Board’s French Immersion program. Principal Fisher looks forward to working with the community and the staff of the new school to promote ongoing excellence in both official languages.

Ernie Checkeris Public School (JK to Grade 3 French Immersion)



Carl A. Nesbitt Public School (Grade 4 to 8 French Immersion)

Mary French has been Principal of Carl A. Nesbitt Public School for the past school year, serving students in Grade 4 to Grade 8 French Immersion program. This fall, she is also assuming responsibility for Ernie Checkeris Public School, which offers French Immersion for students from JK to Grade 3.  Prior to her current role, Mary French was Principal of Churchill Public School for three years and Markstay Public School/Warren Public School for six years.  She has taught all grades, including special education, and has extensive leadership experience locally and provincially. Principal French looks forward to building a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 French Immersion family in the New Sudbury area.


Pablo Gil-Alfau

Princess Anne Public School (JK to Grade 6 English)

Pablo Gil-Alfau has been Vice-Principal of Chelmsford Valley District Composite School since September 2005 and looks forward to his move to the elementary panel where he has been appointed Principal of Princess Anne Public School. He joined the Board in 1997 as a teacher at Manitoulin Secondary School. From 1998 until 2004, he taught Science, Biology and Physical Education at Confederation Secondary School. He later served as a guidance counsellor at Confederation. In his new role, Principal Gil-Alfau will oversee the renovations currently underway at Princess Anne Public School, building on a foundation of excellence in education.


Paula Mackey

Monetville Public School (JK to Grade 8 English)

Paula Mackey has been appointed Principal of Monetville Public School. For the past four years, she has served as Vice-Principal of Northeastern Elementary School. Prior to this, she was Vice-Principal of George Vanier Public School for one year. Principal Mackey has worked with many community partners to enhance all aspects of student life. A former Junior/Intermediate teacher, she continues to be actively involved in the Science Fair and Entrepreneurship Fair. Paula Mackey is a graduate of Lasalle Secondary School. By fostering a strong link between home, school and community, she looks forward to working with students, staff, parents and Monetville partners to ensure success for all.


Jacques Mantha

Alexander Public School (JK to Grade 8 French Immersion)

Jacques Mantha has been Principal of Pinecrest Public School since 2006. A bilingual educator, he is well prepared to assume his new leadership role at Alexander Public School, which offers French Immersion from JK to Grade 8. He served as Acting Principal of Alexander prior to his move to Pinecrest. A classroom teacher since 1988, Principal Mantha has taught in all divisions in the elementary and secondary panels. He was Vice-Principal of R.L. Beattie Public School and Val Caron Public School. He also worked as a teacher and Program Leader at Confederation Secondary School. Principal Mantha looks forward to working with the Alexander community to promote ongoing excellence.


Jeff McKibbon

Lasalle Secondary School (Grade 9 to 12 English and French Immersion)

Jeff McKibbon is the new Principal of Lasalle Secondary School.  For the past seven years, he served as Principal of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School. A classroom teacher since 1991, Principal McKibbon taught Economics, Law, Accounting and History prior to his appointment as a school administrator. His first administrative posting was as Vice-Principal of Lasalle Secondary School in 2001. He has also served as a Principal at Levack District High School and Confederation Secondary School. Principal McKibbon  looks forward to working with the students, staff and community of Lasalle Secondary School to promote ongoing excellence in education in his new leadership role.


Craig Runciman

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School (Grade 9 to 12 English and French Immersion)

Craig Runciman has been appointed Principal of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, one of only three International Baccalaureate (IB) high schools in Northern Ontario. He has served as Principal of Lasalle Secondary School since November 2007. Principal Runciman has resided in Sudbury’s south end for many years and looks forward to working with Lo-Ellen Park students, staff and community partners. Prior to his appointment as a school administrator, Craig Runciman taught History and Economics and served as Program Leader for Social Sciences. Principal Runciman will continue to support Lo-Ellen Park’s rich tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts.



Randy Wallingford



Principal



Pinecrest Public School (Grade 6 to 8 English)

Prior to his appointment as Principal of Pinecrest Public School, Randy Wallingford was Principal of Princess Anne Public School, a position he held for the past four years. He joined the Board 20 years ago, serving as a teacher and administrator. He taught Grade 7 and 8 for 10 years, then transferred to Sudbury Secondary School where he taught before becoming a Vice-Principal of the school. He transferred to the elementary panel in 2005, serving as Vice-Principal of MacLeod Public School for one year. Principal Wallingford is a graduate of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and Laurentian University. He looks forward to working with the Pinecrest School community.
