What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?
Public Meetings for Sudbury South Schools begins Tuesday, March 23
Rainbow District School Board has established an Accommodation Review Committee on all of its schools in the City of Greater Sudbury’s south end.
In keeping with the Ministry of Education’s recommendation that accommodation reviews focus on a group of schools within a geographic area, the Board appointed an Accommodation Review Committee for Alexander Public School, Algonquin Road Public School, Long Lake Public School, MacLeod Public School, Monetville Public School, R.L. Beattie Public School, Wanup Public School, Lockerby Composite School and Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School.
Parents/guardians and the community at large will have an opportunity to provide input as the consultative process unfolds. “A series of four public meetings will be held and we encourage parents/guardians and the public at large to attend,” said Director of Education Jean Hanson. “The first public meeting will be an information sharing session. This will be an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the accommodation review process, obtain data and ask questions.”

Working in an advisory role, the Accommodation Review Committee will provide to the Board’s Administrative Council recommendations to maximize student learning within the resources available to the Board in keeping with two guiding principles – all students will continue to have access to the best programming possible in quality school facilities and surplus space will be reduced.
Accommodation Review Committee members have been drawn from the school community and the broader community, including parents, educators, school board officials, a secondary school student representative, a First Nation representative as well as business and municipal representatives.
The Accommodation Review Committee will share information at the public meetings related to the accommodation review process, data, school information profile and options. The Committee will also consider community feedback on options for accommodating students, prepare an Accommodation Review Committee Report including findings and recommendations, submit the report to Rainbow District School Board’s Administrative Council and make the report accessible to the public.
The Administrative Council will then present the Accommodation Review Committee Report to the Board with recommendations.
Requests for presentations at a public meeting must be made in writing two days prior to the meeting by emailing [email protected] or calling 705.674.3171, ext. 7213. Presentations will be limited to 10 minutes. Written copies must be made prior to the meeting and submitted to the Accommodation Review Committee for the minutes.
For those unable to attend public meetings, written input will be accepted within the timelines specified in the Schedule of Public Meetings. Please send written submissions, to:
