Pumpkin drop drives home the importance of road safety

Confederation Secondary School’s Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving (OSAID) chapter will host its first ever Halloween Pumpkin Drop on Tuesday, October 29, 2013.
A pumpkin will be dropped onto a vehicle’s windshield from a height of five storeys to simulate the impact at 60 kilometres an hour. This will take place at 1:15 pm at Confederation Secondary School, 1918 Main Street in Val Caron.
The event will be combined with a school assembly to demonstrate the importance of smart driving decisions, particularly seatbelt safety.
“Halloween is probably the most overlooked time of the year when it comes to road safety,” says Ashleigh McBain, OSAID chapter teacher representative. “With Halloween activities occurring for the entire week around the event, it is important to remind students to buckle up.  We want people to remember that you can have fun while being safe.”
Confederation Secondary School Principal Pablo Gil-Alfau has donated the car being used in the Halloween Pumpkin Drop. Tracks and Wheels has donated the sky lift.
