R.H. Murray students capture top honors in public speaking

Grade 7 student Chandyn Bachiu, left, and Grade 4 student Sydney McLean of R.H. Murray Public School garnered top honors at the Lions Club District A5 Effective Speaking Competition on Saturday, April 2, 2016.
Chandyn participated in the intermediate category with her thought-provoking speech about a 16-year-old Iranian girl. "It was a great experience," she says. "The Lions Club was very supportive and I had excellent feedback that will help me become a better speaker. This will benefit me in the future."
Sydney participated in the junior category. She delivered a humorous and informative speech about smallmouth bass, leaving listeners anxious to find out about her favorite fishing spot.
Both students were honoured with the first place prize, including $100 and an all-expenses paid trip to attend the Multiple District A Effective Speaking Competition in Ottawa from May 6 to 8, 2016.
