Rainbow Board and ETFO teachers approve local agreements

Rainbow District School Board and the Federation representing elementary permanent teachers and elementary occasional teachers in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island have new agreements at the local level.

The teachers are represented by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) Rainbow Teacher Local and Rainbow Occasional Teacher Local. Rainbow District School Board has approximately 685 permanent teachers and 225 occasional teachers in its elementary schools.

The new deals are in effect from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2026, aligning with the provincial agreements at the central bargaining table.

“This is great news for our students, staff and parents/guardians,” said Rainbow District School Board Chair David Farrow. “I want to personally thank the bargaining teams from the Board and the Federation for working diligently to bring these negotiations to a successful conclusion.”

He added: “Our elementary teachers contribute to the vision, mission, values and priorities of Rainbow Schools through their daily work with students. Occasional teachers ensure continuity of learning in our schools. They are both valued members of our instructional team who have a powerful and positive impact on student achievement and well-being.”

“We are pleased to have finalized a collective agreement with Rainbow District School Board at the local level,” said Liana Holm, President of the ETFO Rainbow Teacher Local. “We attribute this success to the support of our members and the positive relationship that we have with the Board. We look forward to upholding the new agreement together.”

“The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, Rainbow Occasional Teacher Local is pleased that we were able to reach an agreement with Rainbow District School Board,” said President Stacy Sullivan. “Our occasional teachers enjoy working with students in Rainbow Schools in Kindergarten to Grade 8.”
