Rainbow Board congratulates winners of the Technological Skills Competition

Rainbow District School Board hosted its eighth annual Technological Skills Competition at Cambrian College on Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Over 150 secondary school students tested their skills in events such as carpentry, welding, auto-CADD, Rube Machine, video editing, photography, auto-service technology, fashion, 2D character animation, cabinet making, small-powered equipment and TV/video production. Students were vying for an opportunity to compete in the provincial Skills Competition in Waterloo this May.

“On behalf of Rainbow District School Board, I would like to congratulate all of the students who participated in the Technological Skills Competition,” said Board Chair Doreen Dewar. “We wish all students who are competing at the provincial level continued success.”

This year, the winner of the Auto-Service Technology competition received the Cambrian College Motive Power Technician – Service and Management Scholarship. Thomas Whalen of Espanola High School was the proud recipient of this $2,000 scholarship which was made possible through the support of the following partners: Cambrian College, Cambrian Foundation, Cambrian Ford, Sudbury Hyundai and Sudbury Used Cars, PartSource, Laking Toyota, and Gregory K & Son Automotive.

Other winners and participants took home a number of wonderful prizes thanks to the support of community businesses and organizations, including the Sudbury & Manitoulin Partnerships Board and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), among others.
