Rainbow Board encourages families to participate in Earth Hour on March 25th

Staff, students and families in Rainbow Schools are encouraged to “switch off” for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 8:30 pm. Hundreds of millions of people around the world will turn their lights off for one hour in a demonstration of support for global action on climate change.

Earth Hour, a project of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), was pioneered in 2007 by WWF-Australia. Today, Earth Hour is one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment. Rainbow District School Board has participated in Earth Hour since 2008.

“Environmental Education and Sustainability is an important priority for Rainbow District School Board,” says Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “Our schools have demonstrated that even the smallest changes can have profound impacts.”

He added. “Students are adopting the values and behaviours required for sustainability, transferring what they are learning in the classroom into their homes and communities. This generation is paving the path forward for those who will follow in their footsteps.”

Rainbow District School Board will turn off all non-essential interior and exterior lights in its schools and at the Centre for Education.

“We encourage everyone to participate,” says Director Bourget. “Climate change is one of the most defining issues of our time. Our health and the health of our planet depends on what we do each and every day.”
