What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?
Rainbow Board encourages families to participate in Earth Hour on March 26th
Staff and students in Rainbow Schools are encouraged to “Shape our Future” for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 8:30 pm. Hundreds of millions of citizens around the world will turn off their lights for one hour, demonstrating global support for action on climate change.
Earth Hour, a project of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), was pioneered in 2007 by WWF-Australia. Today, Earth Hour is one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment. Rainbow District School Board has participated in Earth Hour since 2008.
“Environmental education and sustainability remains an important priority for Rainbow Schools,” says Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “By increasing sustainable practices, our schools are reducing their overall carbon footprint.”
Rainbow District School Board will turn off all non-essential interior and exterior lights in its schools and at the Centre for Education.
“We encourage staff, students and families to participate,” says Director Bourget. “Climate change is one of the most defining issues of our time. Our health and the health of our planet depends on what we do each and every day.”
