Rainbow District School Board Welcomes Student Trustee for 2008-2009

Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Jean Hanson welcomes Alexandra Schwabe of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School to the Board as a Student Trustee for the 2008-2009 school year.

Alexandra Schwabe, a Grade 12 student in the International Baccalaureate Program at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, will serve as Student Trustee on the Rainbow District School Board for the 2008-2009 School Year. She was sworn in at the Board meeting on Monday, August 25, 2008.

“Our Student Trustee brings a unique perspective to the table and we welcome Alexandra Schwabe’s input,” said Board Chair Judy Hunda. “Her involvement on the Board will give her an inside look at democracy in action.”

Added Chair Hunda: “We believe that we have a responsibility to develop our future leaders. Student trustees help us to achieve this important objective.”

At Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Alexandra Schwabe is a member of the Environmental Club, co-president of the Students Fighting for Change fundraising group, and a member of the basketball team and rowing crew.

Alexandra Schwabe spent her elementary years at Carl A. Nesbitt Public School. Outside of school, she enjoys playing piano, reading, and baking.

“I welcome the opportunity to represent my peers on the Board and ensure that the student voice is heard,” said Alexandra Schwabe. “I look forward to learning more about the Board and gaining some wonderful hands-on experience in this important role.”

Rainbow District School Board reminds parents/guardians and students that the first day of school is on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 – one day later than usual. As always, classes on the first day of school will end 30 minutes earlier.
