Rainbow District School Board will welcome 13,981 students

According to official predicted enrolment for the start of the 2012-2013 school year, Rainbow District School Board will welcome 13,981 students in Rainbow Schools when classes resume on Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

There will be no early dismissal on the first day of school.

In the elementary panel, enrolment will total 8,599 students including 6,160 in the English Program and 2,439 in the French Immersion Program.

In the secondary panel, enrolment is expected to reach 5,382 students including 4,725 in the English Program and 657 in the French Immersion Program.

Enrolment is calculated as full-time equivalents.

This fall, 710 children are expected to enter Junior Kindergarten in Rainbow Schools, now being offered full day every day.

A total of 816 children have enrolled in Senior Kindergarten.

A total of 1,022 students have registered for Grade 9 classes in area Rainbow Schools.

Official enrolment data will be available at the end of October.

Rainbow District School Board is the largest school board in Northern Ontario with 35 elementary schools and 9 secondary schools in Sudbury, Espanola, Manitoulin and Shining Tree.

The new school year begins the day after Labour Day. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4, 2012 for all area school boards, including Rainbow District School Board, the Sudbury Catholic District School Board, le Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario and le Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario. There will be no early dismissal on the first day.
