What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

Rainbow Schools celebrate Music Monday on May 1st

Launched in 2005 by The Coalition for Music Education, Music Monday is the worldís largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous nationwide concert performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist. This year, the Music Monday anthem, Sing It Together, is a collaboration between JUNO award winning veteran songwriters Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas. Music Monday will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017.

Adamsdale Public School
Music Monday celebrations at Adamsdale Public School will include a Talent Show beginning at 9:45 am featuring singing, dancing and instrumental performances by students ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 6. The Talent Show will end with the singing of the Music Monday 2017 Anthem “Sing It Together.” Guests are welcome.

Alexander Public School
Alexander Public School will host a showcase concert of student performances attended by all students and staff. The concert will focus on French language music and will feature the school’s Franco Synchro competitors.

Assiginack Public School
The Assiginack Public School band will play at the Ontario Horticultural Society Annual General Meeting on May 6, 2017 on Manitoulin Island.

C.R. Judd Public School
C.R. Judd Public School will host a Music Monday assembly on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 12:15 pm in the gym. Parents/guardians are invited to attend.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will celebrate Music Monday.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Students at Central Manitoulin Public School have been learning the Music Monday anthem in their music classes and will perform the song after the national anthem on the morning of Monday, May 1, 2017.

Cyril Varney Public School
Cyril Varney Public School will host a Music Monday event on May 1, 2017 in the gym.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
Ernie Checkeris Public School will host a Music Monday event on May 1, 2017 in the gym.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School students will join together to sing the Music Monday anthem as well as other songs on May 1, 2017. The Larchwood students will also celebrate music education later in the week with their annual talent show taking place on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Levack Public School
On Monday, May 1, 2017, Levack Public School will host a special Music Monday celebration, “Sing for joy. Sing for healing. Sing for freedom.” The Onaping Falls Community is invited to attend this free concert in the school gym at 1 pm. The concert will feature live performances from the Levack Rock Band, the Levack Choir, and special guests, the St. Bartholomew Adult Choir.

Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will host a concert on Thursday, May 11, 2017 featuring musicians from Lively District Secondary School, Copper Cliff Public School, R.H. Murray Public School, and Walden Public School.

MacLeod Public School
Students at MacLeod Public School will perform the Music Monday anthem in the gymnasium at 2:15 pm. There will also be performances from the MacLeod Percussion Ensemble, Jazz and Concert Bands, and Choir. The concert will also feature individual class performances and MacLeod student Brandon Wong will perform his award-winning Marimba solo from the Kiwanis Festival.

Monetville Public School
All students will take part in Sing it Together for Music Monday.

Pinecrest Public School
On Music Monday, Pinecrest Public School students and staff will sing the Music Monday anthem along with students from across Canada. The Pinecrest Concert Band will perform the pieces they prepared for the Kiwanis Festival. This presentation will also highlight the importance of music education.

Princess Anne Public School
Students at Princess Anne Public School will gather in the gymnasium to share a variety of musical performances at 2 pm.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School will host a school talent show on Monday, May 1, 2017.

R.H. Murray Public School
R.H. Murray Public School will celebrate Music Monday with a presentation in the gym at 1:45 pm on May 1, 2017. The choir and recorder groups will share their Kiwanis pieces with the school. There will also be special presentations from staff and students from the Cambrian College School of Music. Families are welcome to attend this special presentation.

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School will host a sing-along in the gym at 11:30 am featuring songs about Canada in honour of the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The sing-along will end with this year’s Music Monday anthem.

R.L. Beattie Public School
The students at R.L. Beattie Public School will gather in the gymnasium at 12:10 pm on Monday, May 1, 2017. The Band of Barons, Minitones, and Barontones will perform several pieces and students will sing a variety of selections, including the Music Monday anthem. Some of R. L. Beattie’s participants in the Franco Rainbow competition will perform their routines. R.L. Beattie students will also participate in the première of the Beattie String Ensemble led by Dr. Matthew Gould and Beth Schneider-Gould from the Faculty of Music at Cambrian College.

Valley View Public School
The Valley View Public School band will perform for the school as part of Music Monday.

Sudbury Secondary School
The Grade 9 choir will perform in the all-Canadian choral concert Something to Sing About being held at the Fraser Auditorium of Laurentian University on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 7:30 pm. The Sudbury Secondary Choir and Concert Band are also heading to Canada’s Wonderland to perform at the annual Wonderland Festival of Music on Friday, May 5, 2017.

Westmount Avenue Public School
Students at Westmount Avenue Public School will gather in the gymnasium to sign their school song together along with a few other favourites.
