Rainbow Schools celebrate Music Monday on May 7th

Launched in 2005 by The Coalition for Music Education, Music Monday is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous nation-wide concert performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist. This year, the Music Monday anthem, Sing It Together, is a collaboration between JUNO award winning, veteran songwriters Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas. Music Monday will be held on Monday, May 7th, 2018.

A.B. Ellis Public School
A.B. Ellis Public School students will collaborate with a singer/songwriter to write a Music Monday song. Students will present the song at a special concert in the afternoon at 1:45 pm. During the concert, the entire school community will sing past Music Monday songs.

Adamsdale Public School
Students, staff and guests will celebrate Music Monday with the annual Adamsdale Public School Talent Show. Students will gather in the gym at 9:30 am to perform musical, gymnastic and dramatic routines. The event will culminate with the entire school community joining together to sing the Music Monday theme song “Sing It Together.”

Alexander Public School
Alexander Public School will celebrate Music Monday on Monday, May 14th. The entire school will participate in a concert in the gym at 11:45 am with all parents/guardians in attendance. Each classroom will play a role in the concert. The show will feature a variety of performances from classes across the school. The show will also include the Sudbury Secondary School band. As the grand finale, the Sudbury Secondary School band and the Alexander Public School band will perform “Defender of Time” arranged by Rob Grice.

Algonquin Road Public School
In celebration of Music Monday, acclaimed classical guitarist Jason Daoust will spearhead a series of workshops for students at Algonquin Road Public School. Jason will also perform traditional classic and contemporary music for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. Jason is a graduate of Ottawa University’s School of Music and maintains an extensive teaching practice at Long and McQuade. Jason’s talents are being recognized at the International level with a nomination for Outstanding Guitarist Under 30 by the Society of Nordic Composers in Bryggen, Norway.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School will celebrate Music Monday with a Talent Show on Friday, May 4th at 11:30 am. Music will be celebrated through instrumental performance, dance and dramatic presentations. Highlights of the Talent Show will be performed during the Volunteer Tea on Monday, May 7th at 3:30 pm.

Confederation Secondary School
Students at Confederation Secondary School will spend Music Monday preparing for their participation in the MusicFest Nationals.

C.R. Judd Public School
The C.R. Judd Public School choir will present a concert in the school gym at 12:15 pm on Monday, May 7th in celebration of Music Monday. Everyone is welcome.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
Ernie Checkeris Public School will host a Music Monday concert from 11:15 am to noon where the entire school community will sing “Chantons tous ensemble”, as well as O Canada in Ojibwe using a native drum. The anthem will be recorded and played throughout the year to honour the school’s Truth and Reconciliation initiatives. Grade 3 students will play the recorder.

Lansdowne Public School
Staff and students at Lansdowne Public School will celebrate Music Monday with a school-wide assembly on Monday, May 7th from noon to 1 pm. During the assembly, students will showcase their musical talents and all classes will sing the Music Monday song, “Sing It Together.”

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School will celebrate Music Monday with an assembly at 10 am. During the assembly, students and staff will sing the anthem “Sing It Together”. There will also be performances by students. Families are welcome.

Lasalle Secondary School
Lasalle Secondary School’s music department will host its annual Spring Concert in the school cafeteria on May 7th from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. This year’s line up will feature performances by the Lasalle Guitar Ensemble and the Concert Band under the direction of Marc Savard as well as the Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Corinne Yantha. There will also be a special performance by The Nickel City Wind Ensemble directed by David Young. Guests will enjoy a sneak peek of the school’s upcoming drama production “The Frogs: A Modern Adaptation.” Freezies and refreshments will be on sale. Price of admission is a donation. Everyone is welcome.

Levack Public School
Levack Public School will host a Music Monday concert on Monday, May 7th at 1:30 pm. The concert will feature the school’s Rock Band. Everyone is Welcome.

Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will celebrate Music Monday with a concert on Thursday, May 10th from 9:30 am to 11 am. Students from Grades 4 to 8 from Lively District Secondary School, Walden Public School, and R.H. Murray Public School will perform. Lively District Secondary School will also host a concert on Thursday, May 10th from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The event will feature the Grade 7 and 8 Concert Bands, and the Grade 8 and 9 to 12 Rock Bands.

MacLeod Public School
Staff and students at MacLeod Public School will celebrate Music Monday with a school-wide assembly on Monday, May 7th at 11:30 am in the gym. During the assembly, music will be celebrated with performances by the school’s jazz ensemble, concert band, and percussion ensemble as well as performances by many classes.

Markstay Public School
At Markstay Public School all classes will perform their favourite songs during a Music Monday celebration at 11:50 am, including the Music Monday anthem. Errol Lee will perform later in the week. Staff and students are looking forward to his performance which promotes character education and a ‘cool’ unique musical style.

Princess Anne Public School
Princess Anne Public School will celebrate Music Monday on Wednesday, May 9th from 9:10 am to 9:40 am. The Princess Anne Monsters of Rock will present a concert for all students to enjoy. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend. The concert will be held in the school gym.

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School will participate in Music Monday from approximately 11:35 am to 12:35 pm. Various classes will sing the song “Everybody Has Music Inside”. The school Choir will sing “A Million Dreams”. Some Grade 3 students will perform “Popcorn” with BoomWhackers. The Ukulele Club will perform “You Are My Sunshine”. There will be a little bit of everything for Music Monday at Redwood Acres Public School.

R.L. Beattie Public School
On Monday, May 7th, R.L. Beattie Public School will celebrate Music Monday with an hour-long concert at noon. The audience will hear performances by The Band of Barons, The Minitones and Barontones choirs and Grade 1 students. Guest performers, led by community musicians Beth and Matthew Gould, will also treat everyone to some beautiful musical selections. Winners of the in-school Franco Rainbow competition will present their routines during this celebration. R.L. Beattie Public School staff and students are proud to join the hundreds of thousands of Canadians in raising awareness about the importance of music education in our schools.

R.H. Murray Public School
On Monday, May 7th, R.H. Murray Public School will host a Music Monday concert at 2:15 pm in the gym. The primary choir will sing their Gold awarded Kiwanis song, “Make a Difference.” Junior and intermediate students will present instrumental songs they have been working diligently to master. The concert will conclude with a performance of the Music Monday song, “Sing It Together”.

Sudbury Secondary School
On Monday, May 14th, Sudbury Secondary School and Alexander Public School will come together to celebrate Music Monday. The Alexander Concert Band and Sudbury Secondary Mega Concert Band will join into a mass band to perform for students. Sudbury Secondary School’s Starfire Choir will host a mini concert at the school on Monday, May 7th at 1 pm. The entire student body will be invited to collaborate during the performance.

Walden Public School
Students and staff will host a concert at 11:30 am during Music Monday. Classes are paired to perform a song. The Choir, Ukulele Club, and Clarinet Group will perform. The event will conclude with the singing of the Music Monday anthem, “Sing It Together.”
