Rainbow Schools host Red and White Day on Friday, March 25, 2011

Staff and students in Rainbow Schools will wear red and white on Friday, March 25th, 2011 to mark the two-week anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan.

“One of our Board Office employees who has visited Japan on several occasions thought it would be a wonderful idea to host a Red and White Day as a show of solidarity,” said Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board. He added: “We invite everyone in the community to join together for Japan by wearing red and white on Friday.”

While this event is not intended to raise funds for Japan relief efforts, schools that would like to collect donations are certainly welcome to do so. Lockerby Composite School, for instance, will be raising funds in homerooms as well as making and selling paper cranes, with all donations going to the Red Cross. A total of 20 students, teachers and parents from Lockerby returned home safely from Japan over the March break.
