Rainbow Schools mark Remembrance Day 2014

A.B. Ellis Public School
A.B. Ellis Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10:15 am in the school gym. Parents and community members are welcome. Students will also attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph in Espanola on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11 am. They will present memorial wreaths on behalf of the school.

Adamsdale Public School
Students and staff at Adamsdale Public School will gather in the gym on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:30 am to honour Canadians who fought and sacrificed their lives during war and peacekeeping missions. There will be a poetry recital, reading and singing. A moment of silence will also be recognized. Guests are welcome. Grade 4 and 5 students will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Alexander Public School
Students in Grades 4 to 6 and 8 will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. All other students will honour those who fought and sacrificed their lives during war and peacekeeping missions during a Remembrance Day ceremony in the school gym. Students will read poetry, watch a short film, and stand for a moment of silence at the eleventh hour. Parents and family members are welcome to attend and are asked to sign in at the office.

Algonquin Road Public School
Algonquin Road Public School will send Grade 7 and 8 students to the Sudbury Arena for the Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Students from Early Learning-Kindergarten to Grade 6 will participate in a formal ceremony at the school. 

Assiginack Public School
Students at Assiginack Public School will participate in the Canadian Legion Poem, Poster and Essay competition in honour of Remembrance Day. The school will host a “We Care” concert on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 6:30 pm to honour those who served and gave their lives in the cause of peace. On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at 10:45 am, a community Remembrance Day service will be held in the school gym. In attendance will be local veterans, mothers of veterans and municipal representatives. Students will perform songs and recite poems that pay tribute to the men and women in the military, both past and present. The public is welcome.

Barrydowne College
Barrydowne College will honour Remembrance Day. Students will watch a documentary, followed with two minutes of silence. Teachers will discuss the importance of Remembrance Day during afternoon classes.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:45 am for students and staff at Carl A. Nesbitt Public School. The ceremony will consist of readings, poems, and videos created by students. Students will lay wreaths crafted by each class.  Everyone is welcome. The Grade 7/8 class from Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena.

Central Manitoulin Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, Central Manitoulin Public School will hold its annual Remembrance Day Ceremony at 9:15 am in the school gym. The public is welcome. The school choir will sing at the Manitoulin Cenotaph service at 11 am.

Charles C. McLean Public School
At 10:15 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, all students and staff from Charles C. McLean Public School, with the exception of the Grade 4/5 class, will gather in the gym for a Remembrance Day assembly. Students will participate in singing, reading poetry, and laying wreaths. Parents/guardians are invited to attend.

The Grade 4/5 class will participate in the Remembrance Day program with Royal Canadian Legion Western Manitoulin Branch #514 on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.  Students will march with Legion members from the Branch to the Cenotaph location on Meredith Street and will lead the assembly in the singing of “O Canada”. Grade 4 student Jenna Shank will present Sarah Wheale’s poem "Always Remember". Grade 4 student Colton Chevrette will present John McCrae’s "In Flanders Fields". Jordan Bailey and Sophie Hietkamp will lay a wreath representing the students of Charles C. McLean Public School.

Chelmsford Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, Grade 5 and 6 students from Chelmsford Public School will participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena. Staff and students invite parents and family members to observe Remembrance Day at 10 am in the school gym. Students will perform songs and poems to pay tribute to the men and women in the military, both past and present. Visual presentations will bring to life the importance of Remembrance Day.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
All students at Chelmsford Valley District Composite School will attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Sudbury Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:30 am.

Churchill Public School
Churchill Public School students and staff will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:30 am.

Confederation Secondary School
Confederation Secondary School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #553 in Chelmsford will be in attendance to take part in the ceremony. On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, two busses of students will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena.

Copper Cliff Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:40 am, Copper Cliff Public School and the local Royal Canadian Legion will host a Remembrance Day ceremony for students, staff and the community of Copper Cliff. The school’s choir will sing “Imagine” by John Lennon and “Grant Us Thy Peace” by Dona Nobis Pacem. Students will lay wreaths and will watch a video tribute to the soldiers who have fought for our freedom.

C.R. Judd Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, C.R. Judd Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony. Students from Early Learning-Kindergarten to Grade 6 will perform various readings and songs. Members of the community are invited to continue the long-standing tradition of laying wreaths and observing a minute of silence. Grade 7 and 8 students will attend a ceremony at the Capreol Cenotaph service hosted by Royal Canadian Legion Branch #179.

Cyril Varney Public School
Students from Cyril Varney Public School were given Remembrance Day post cards and bookmarks from Veterans Affairs Canada. The postcards were mailed to Veterans across the country during the last week in October. A Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at 9:15 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in the school gym. The event is open to the public.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:30 am, students and staff at Ernie Checkeris Public School will gather in the gym to honour Canadians who sacrificed their lives during war and peacekeeping missions. Participants will enjoy songs and poems and each student will place their own poppy on a commemorative wreath. A moment of silence will be observed at 11 am with the playing of "The Last Post" and "Reveille". Parents, family and community members are welcome to attend. The Grade 3 class will participate in the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena.

Espanola High School
Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held at Espanola High School on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 1:15 pm, in the school’s main gym. Staff and students will welcome special guests including legionnaires, cadets, Espanola Police Service, Espanola Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services as well as the Byers and Arnold families. The public is welcome to attend.

Jean Hanson Public School
Staff and students at Jean Hanson Public School will participate in a short audio/visual Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 1 pm in the school gym. The focus will be remembering and respecting the efforts of our armed forces and the sacrifices they have made for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Lansdowne Public School
Students in Early Learning-Kindergarten to Grade 3 will have a Remembrance Day ceremony in the Lansdowne Public School gym on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10 am. Students in Grades 4 to 8 will walk to the Sudbury Arena to attend the Remembrance Day assembly where Grade 7 students will recite the poem “In Flanders Field”.

Larchwood Public School
All students from Larchwood Public School will participate in a Remembrance Day ceremony in the school gym at 8:50 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.  Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #503 will lead the school in the singing of “O Canada”.  Two minutes of silence will be observed followed by the laying of the wreaths and poem readings. Together, the school will sing "In Flanders Fields". Students will also participate in the Royal Canadian Legion poetry and poem contest.

Lasalle Secondary School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, students and staff at Lasalle Secondary School will observe a moment of silence and have a series of announcements to honour those who have sacrificed their lives, both past and present. Special performances will include “Last Post” and “Reveille”, readings of poetry and letters written by soldiers, and our national anthem sung by Lasalle’s vocal ensemble. Three busses of students will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Levack Public School
Levack Public School will host a Remembrance Day assembly on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 9 am in the school gym. The local Royal Canadian Legion Branch #503 will lead the act of remembrance. Grade 8 students will carry flags as part of the ‘colour party’. The school Rock Band will perform, as well as former student and local artist Jenna Maisonneuve. Intermediate students will read poems from the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poems, Posters and Essays competition. The school has invited Second World War veteran Mr. Harry Warren to attend.

Student artwork will decorate the hall during the Remembrance Day luncheon at the Royal Canadian Legion on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. A group of Grade 5/6 students will accompany their teacher to lay a school wreath at the service.

Little Current Public School
Students, staff, parents and community members will assemble in the school gym for a Remembrance Day service on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 9:45 am. Military veterans, legionnaires and sea cadets will be in attendance. Songs and poems will be presented to pay tribute to the men and women in the military, both past and present.  The laying of the wreath will be followed by a moment of silence.

Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:20 am on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. The service will include music, poetry and the laying of wreaths, followed by a moment of silence at the eleventh hour. All students from Grades 7 to 12 will attend and members of the community are also welcome.

M.W. Moore Public and Secondary School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, M.W. Moore Public and Secondary School students and the community of Shining Tree will commemorate Remembrance Day with an assembly at 10:45 am. Students will share poems and personal stories followed by the laying of the wreath and a moment of silence.

MacLeod Public School
In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, MacLeod Public School students and staff will explore poetry, music, art, and websites to develop pieces that demonstrate their reflections about peace. On Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:45 am, staff, students and guests will join together to honour those who have given their lives and who continue to put their lives at risk, in the cause of peace.

Manitoulin Secondary School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, Manitoulin Secondary School will hold its annual Remembrance Day assembly. The ceremony will include a tribute to all veterans, past and present, with a focus on those from Manitoulin Island.  The names of all Manitoulin Island soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom will be read. The local Royal Canadian Legion will participate with the laying of a wreath. The Manitoulin Secondary School band will play songs, including a special performance of “The Last Post” and “Reveille”. Students will visit a Remembrance Day Exhibition at the Old Mill Heritage Centre in Kagawong.

Markstay Public School
Community members are invited to join staff and students at Markstay Public School for an in-school Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 9:10 am.

Mishko-Deh-Wendam
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, students from the Mishko-Deh-Wendam program will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena.

Students from Monetville Public School will attend the community Remembrance Day ceremony at the Noelville Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:30 am.

Students from Pinecrest Public School will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. The school will also host a ceremony where select classes will perform poems.

Princess Anne Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at 10 am, students will gather for a Remembrance Day ceremony in the school gym. The ceremony will include class presentations of poems and readings on the significance of Remembrance Day. Representatives from each class will lay wreaths in honour of war heroes. Members of the local school community are invited.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Students and staff at Queen Elizabeth II Public School will gather in the gym on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 for a Remembrance Day ceremony. The ceremony will include the singing of "O Canada", a reading of "In Flanders Field" and the laying of wreaths. Students and staff will also watch "Highway of Heroes" and "A Pittance of Time". One class will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena.

Redwood Acres Public School
Redwood Acres Public School will hold a Remembrance Day service on Tuesday, November 11, at 10:45 am led by the Grade 4 classes. Students will express their respect through the laying of wreaths, slide presentations, poetry, drama and music.  Families and community members are welcome to attend.

R. H. Murray Public School
Students and staff will commemorate Remembrance Day with a ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:15 am. The students will read poems and stories, sing two songs and watch a short film. The ceremony will end with a minute of silence and the singing of “O Canada”.

R.L. Beattie Public School
Grade 8 students at R.L. Beattie Public School will continue the tradition of organizing the school Remembrance Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 with the theme “100 years of Canadian Involvement in International Conflict”. The ceremony will include a student Master of Ceremony, an instrumental version of “O Canada” performed by the Grade 8 band, a brief overview of WWI, 100 words of inspirational peace quotes, a contrast of Canadian landscapes vs. war imagery, and a bilingual performance of “In Flanders Field” accompanied by student imagery inspired by the poem. The ceremony will also include an interpretive shadow dance performance, a moment of silence, a display of a Virtual Wall of Fame, a primary choir presentation and the laying of wreaths by each class.

S. Geiger Public School
In honour of Remembrance Day, students and staff at S. Geiger Public School will participate in a school ceremony on Thursday, November 6, 2014. The Grade 5 to 8 classes and school choir will attend a service at the Massey Arena on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Valley View Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:30 am, Valley View Public School will host a Remembrance Day service for students from Grades 1 to 5. Students will perform various readings, including "In Flanders Field", and a variety of songs, including "Where have all the Flowers Gone”. Students will lay wreaths in honour of Canadian soldiers, past and present. Attendees will also observe a minute of silence. Students from Grades 6 to 8 will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena.

Webbwood Public School
Students, staff and community members from the local Legion will gather in the Webbwood Public School gym on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 to honour all of the Canadians who sacrificed their lives during war and peacekeeping missions. Prior to the service, a number of students who serve as Sea Cadets will join the local Legion members at the Webbwood Cenotaph. During the service, students will read poetry, sing, share works of art, and lay a wreath with community members and the visiting veterans. A moment of silence will follow.

Walden Public School
A Remembrance Day ceremony will take place in the school gym on Tuesday, November 11, at 10:20 am.  Following the singing of “O Canada”, the primary choir will perform "A Song of Peace" and the Glee Club will perform "Highway of Heroes".  The Grade 4/5 class will present "Never Again", and the Grade 1 French Immersion class will present "Le coquelicot". Each division will have student representatives lay a wreath. Attendees will observe a moment of silence between the playing of “The Last Post" and "The Rouse".  Student artwork will decorate the gym.

Westmount Avenue Public School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2014, students and staff will gather in the school’s Tessa Bonhomme gymnasium to honour veterans and civilians from World War I and II and to pay tribute to Canadian soldiers who promote world peace. The ceremony will begin with “O Canada” followed by poem readings, songs and two minutes of silence. A war veteran will be in attendance to speak to students. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend. The school will accept donations for the Royal Canadian Legion.
