Rainbow Schools mark Remembrance Day 2015

A.B. Ellis Public School
A.B. Ellis Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 10:45 am in the school gym. Parents/guardians and community members are welcome. Students will also attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Espanola Cenotaph on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11 am. Students will present memorial wreaths on behalf of the school.

Adamsdale Public School
Students, staff and parents at Adamsdale Public School will gather in the gym on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 am to honour those who fought and sacrificed their lives during war and peacekeeping missions. Students will read, recite poetry and sing songs. A moment of silence will take place at 11 am. Parents/guardians and the local community are welcome. Students in Grades 5 and 6 will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena at 10:30 am.

Algonquin Road Public School
Students, parents and staff will gather in the gym for a Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11, 2015 at 10:45 am.  Students will read poetry, short stories and watch a short video in honour of those who fought for our freedom.  Students will lay wreaths in memory of the soldiers. 

Barrydowne College
Students at Barrydowne College will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena and a special gathering at the Wabnode Centre at Cambrian College.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
The community is invited to join staff and students of Carl A. Nesbitt Public School in the gym at 10:45 am for a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  There will be readings, student-created video tributes, the laying of wreaths and a moment of silence to honour the men and women who have served our country.  Students in Grades 3 to 5 will attend the service at the Sudbury Arena.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Students from Central Manitoulin Public School will participate in the Royal Canadian Legion Poems, Posters and Essays competition. The school will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9:15 am. The school choir will
attend a community Remembrance Day service. This year marks the centennial of the famous poem written by Captain John McCrae. At 1:30 pm, students will join The Vimy Foundation to help pass the torch of remembrance by simultaneously reciting “In Flanders Fields” in their classrooms. Students will also visit the War Memorial exhibit at the Kagawong Museum. 

Charles C. McLean Public School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:15 am, students and staff at Charles C. McLean Public School will gather in the gym for a Remembrance Day assembly. Students will sing songs, read poetry and lay wreaths. Parents/guardians are invited to attend.

The Grade 4/5 class will participate in the Remembrance Day program at the Royal Canadian Legion Western Manitoulin Branch #514 on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  Students will march with Legion members to the Cenotaph on Meredith Street and will lead the assembly in singing “O Canada”. Student Hailey Ferguson will recite the World War I poem "In Flanders Fields" to celebrate its centenary. Patrick McCann will recite "High Flight", a World War II poem written by a pilot serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. Lucas Wright and Luke Heinen will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of all students. The Grade 4/5 class will also participate in the Vimy Foundation’s mass recitation of "In Flanders Fields" at 1:30 pm.

Chelmsford Public School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, Grade 4, 5 and 6 students will participate in the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena. Staff and students invite families to participate in a Remembrance Day ceremony at 10 am in the school gym. Students will sing songs and recite poems to pay tribute to the men and women in the military, both past and present. Visual presentations will bring to life the importance of Remembrance Day.

Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
All students at Chelmsford Valley District Composite School will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 am.

Churchill Public School
Churchill Public School will host a Remembrance Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.  Staff and students will lead the ceremony with a variety of poems, readings and musical numbers. Students will lay wreaths and observe a moment of silence. This is an important teaching/learning opportunity for students, where Canada is showcased for its role in international conflicts. 

Copper Cliff Public School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:45 am, Copper Cliff Public School will join the local Royal Canadian Legion to host a Remembrance Day ceremony for students, staff and the local community. Primary students will sing “Light One Candle”. Students will lay wreaths, read poetry and watch a video tribute to the soldiers who fought for our freedom.

C.R. Judd Public School
C.R. Judd Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony at the school on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 1:45 pm. Kindergarten to Grade 8 students will perform various songs and readings. Members of the community are invited to lay wreaths and observe a minute of silence. Grade 7 and 8 students will attend a ceremony at the Capreol Cenotaph service hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #179.

Cyril Varney Public School
Through the Memory Project, sponsored by Historica Canada, war veteran Ron Robitaille will speak with students at Cyril Varney Public School on Thursday, November 5, 2015.
In honour of Remembrance Day, the school will host a ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11 am. Students will lay wreaths, observe a moment of silence and sing the “Welcome Song” in Ojibwe.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
The community is invited to join staff and students of Ernie Checkeris Public School in the gymnasium at 10:45 am for a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Students will sing a song of remembrance, lay wreaths and observe a moment of silence.  The Grade 3 students will attend the ceremony at the Sudbury Arena.

Espanola High School
A Remembrance Day ceremony will take place at Espanola High School on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 1:45 pm in the school’s main gym. Staff and students will welcome special guests including members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Cadets, Espanola Police Service, Espanola Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services as well as the Byers and Arnold families. The public is welcome to attend.

Lansdowne Public School
Lansdowne Public School will host a Remembrance Day service on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10 am for primary students. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend. Students in Grades 4 to 8 will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9 am in the school gym. Guests will observe a moment of silence followed by poem readings and the laying of wreaths. At 10:30 am, students will also attend a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Onaping Falls Royal Canadian Legion Branch #503. 

Lasalle Secondary School
Lasalle Secondary School will host a Remembrance Day service for all students and staff on November 11, 2015 at 11 am.  The Grade 10 history and civics classes will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena.

Levack Public School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9 am, Levack Public School will host a Remembrance Day commemorative ceremony in the gym to honour those who have and continue to fight for our freedom. Parents/guardians and community members are welcome. 

Students will participate in the Royal Canadian Legion Poems, Posters and Essays competition. Their work will be displayed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #503 on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 for the Remembrance Day ceremony. Legion president Comrade Getchell will lead the ceremony. A Grade 6 student will read John McCrae’s "In Flanders Fields" and will explain the importance of the Legion’s work. Comrade Getchell will lay a wreath. Three Grade 6 students will carry the flags for the Colour Party including the opening and closing of the ceremony. A few students will share their poems for the Legion competition.

Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:20 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. The service will include music, poetry and the laying of wreaths, followed by a moment of silence at the eleventh hour. All students from Grades 7 to 12 will attend. Members of the community are also welcome.

Lockerby Composite School
Some 170 students from Lockerby Composite School will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at Sudbury Arena on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. All students will participate in an observance from 11 am to 11:10 am.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in the gym for staff and students.

Manitoulin Secondary School
On Tuesday, November 11, 2015, Manitoulin Secondary School will host its annual Remembrance Day assembly. The ceremony will include a tribute to all veterans, past and present, with a focus on those from Manitoulin Island.  The names of all Manitoulin Island soldiers who have given their lives for our freedom will be read. The local Royal Canadian Legion will participate with the laying of a wreath. The Manitoulin Secondary School band will play songs, including a special performance of “The Last Post” and “Reveille”. Students will visit a Remembrance Day exhibition at the Old Mill Heritage Centre in Kagawong.

M.W. Moore Public and Secondary School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, M.W. Moore Public School and Secondary School students and the community of Shining Tree will commemorate Remembrance Day with an assembly at 10:45 a.m. A Grade 4 student will share a presentation followed by the laying of the wreath and a moment of silence.

Markstay Public School
Community members are invited to join staff and students for a Remembrance Day service at the Markstay Cenotaph on Pioneer Street at 11 am on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. Grade 7 and 8 students will attend the service at the Sudbury Arena.

Monetville Public School
Students from Monetville Public School will attend a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Noelville Arena on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 am. Following the service, students will attend a community luncheon hosted by the local Royal Canadian Legion.

Northeastern Elementary School
Northeastern Elementary School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9:50 am in the gym. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend. Students in Grades 3 to 8 will attend the service at the Sudbury Arena.

Pinecrest Public School
Students from Pinecrest Public School will join local veterans and legion members for a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Capreol Cenotaph at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #179.

Princess Anne Public School
To launch Veterans’ Week, Grade 4 students at Princess Anne Public School will visit the Sudbury Armoury Irish Regimental Museum, followed by a walk to the Cenotaph on Thursday, November 5, 2015.

On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10 am, Princess Anne Public School students will gather for a Remembrance Day ceremony in the gym. The ceremony will include class presentations of poems and readings on the significance of Remembrance Day. Representatives from each class will lay wreaths in honour of war heroes. The community is welcome. Intermediate students will attend the service at the Sudbury Arena.

Queen Elizabeth II Public School
Queen Elizabeth II Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in the gym. The ceremony will include the singing of "O Canada", a reading of "In Flanders Fields" and the laying of wreaths. Students and staff will watch "Highway of Heroes" and "A Pittance of Time". The ceremony will conclude with a trumpet performance of "The Last Post". The Grade 5/6 class will attend the service at the Sudbury Arena.

Redwood Acres Public School
Grade 4 students at Redwood Acres Public School will lead a Remembrance Day service on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:45 am. Students will express their respect through the laying of wreaths, slide presentations, poetry, drama and music.  Families and community members are welcome to attend.

R.H. Murray Public School
R. H. Murray Public School students will attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sudbury Arena on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 am.

R.L. Beattie Public School
Grade 8 students at R.L. Beattie Public School will continue the tradition of organizing the school Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in the school gym. This year’s theme will be the 100th Anniversary of Lieutenant John McCrae’s memorable war poem “In Flanders Fields". The ceremony will include a re-enactment of the writing of the poem, a brief overview of the Second Battle of Ypres, musical performances and videos created by Grade 8 students. The ceremony will also include a rendition of “Remember Flanders Fields” by the school choir. Following the service, class representatives will create a Garden of Remembrance.

S. Geiger Public School
S. Geiger Public School students will participate in the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poems, Posters and Essays competition. Members of the Legion will visit the school for a Remembrance Day service on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:30 am. Students will recite songs and a choral reading of "In Flanders Fields" to commemorate the poem’s 100th anniversary. Winners of the competition will also be announced. On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, staff and students will participate in a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Massey Arena. The school choir will perform.

Sudbury Secondary School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 10:30 am, Sudbury Secondary School students will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena.

Valley View Public School
On Monday, November 9, 2015 at 1:35 pm, Valley View Public School will host a Remembrance Day service for students in Grades 1 to 8. Veterans and members of the local Royal Canadian Legion will be present to speak with students about the significance of the service and their medals. Students will lay wreaths in honour of Canadian soldiers, past and present and guests will observe a minute of silence. Grades 7 to 8 students will attend the Remembrance Day service at the Sudbury Arena on Wednesday, November 11, 2015.

Webbwood Public School
Webbwood Public School students will participate in the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poems, Posters and Essays contest. Members of the Legion will visit the school on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at 1:30 pm for a special ceremony. Students will recite songs and a choral reading of "In Flanders Fields" to commemorate the poem’s 100th anniversary. Winners of the competition will be announced. Students will also attend a community ceremony at the Webbwood Cenotaph.

Walden Public School
Walden Public School will host a Remembrance Day ceremony in the school gym on Wednesday, November 11, at 10 am. Following the singing of “O Canada”, the primary choir will perform "Danny Boy" and the Glee Club will perform "White Cliffs of Dover".  Several classes will lay wreaths, sing and recite poems in English and French. Student artwork will decorate the gym.

Westmount Avenue Public School
On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, students and staff will gather in the school’s Tessa Bonhomme gymnasium to honour veterans and civilians from World War I and II and to pay tribute to Canadian soldiers who promote world peace. The ceremony will begin with “O Canada” followed by poem readings, songs and two minutes of silence. A war veteran will be in attendance to speak to students. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend. The school will accept donations for the Royal Canadian Legion.
