Rainbow Schools offer Kindergarten Orientation for children starting school this fall

Kindergarten students Ryden Armstrong, left, and Lennix Glabb develop their concepts of print and pre-reading skills by engaging with a story book.

All Rainbow Schools will offer Kindergarten Orientation sessions for children starting school this fall and their parents/guardians. Parents who have not already registered their children still have time to do so and can reserve their spot for Kindergarten Orientation by calling their nearest Rainbow school. Registrations for September 2026 will also be accepted at the orientation.

Families will have an opportunity to connect with Kindergarten teachers, early childhood educators and school personnel. They will also meet other children starting school.

“It’s essential for staff to build strong relationships and actively involve parents and guardians as partners in education,” says Rainbow District School Board Director of Education Bruce Bourget. “Building this partnership begins long before the first day of school. Starting school is not the beginning of a child’s learning journey – it’s a continuation of the journey together.”

During orientation, parents/guardians will learn strategies to help children prepare for school, with a focus on literacy and numeracy. Families will receive resources that may contain information from the school, the Board and/or community partners, such as transportation or Public Health programs.

“Kindergarten Orientation helps to bridge the transition from home to school,” says Director Bourget. “Parents and guardians will leave with strategies and resources to introduce children to Rainbow Schools and the wonderful experiences that await them.”
