Rainbow Schools offer opportunities to earn new credits this summer

Rainbow District School Board will offer opportunities for students to earn new credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma this summer, including Summer School Co-operative Education, Barrydowne College Dual Credit and new credit as well as e-Learning for students in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.

Summer School Co-operative Education

Summer Co-op students can obtain one, two or three new Co-operative Education credit(s).

Co-op credits will be available in July and August for students who already have a paid or unpaid placement where the employer has agreed to monitoring.

Students must contact their school Guidance Counsellor to discuss options if they already have or need a Co-op placement arranged for the summer.

Students wishing to obtain one or two credits must register for the session that runs from Wednesday, July 2, 2025 to Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Students wishing to obtain an additional credit must register for the session that runs from Friday, August 1, 2025 to Friday, August 22, 2025.

Students registering for Summer Co-op must include a credit counselling summary from their current school so that the proper Co-op course codes can be applied.

Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to their placements.

Barrydowne College – Dual Credit and New Credit Courses

For current and incoming Barrydowne College students, a Digital Photography Dual Credit will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from Wednesday, July 2, 2025 to Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am.

To qualify for this Dual Credit, students must also be enrolled in one of the other offerings at Barrydowne College, including Math, English and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC).

These blended learning courses will run from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from Wednesday, July 2, 2025 to Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Please contact Principal Laurie-Ann Lielkalns at [email protected] for more information.

Summer e-Learning Program

Secondary students can obtain one new credit through summer eLearning.

Students will require a reliable computer with Internet access to enroll in the Summer eLearning Program.

eLearning is taught entirely through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in D2L’s Brightspace.

eLearning is asynchronous, which means students have the flexibility to login and complete work at any time of the day. Students should expect to spend approximately five hours per day working on their course.

There is no guarantee that students will be able to access the VLE outside of Canada.

Courses are offered by different school boards, and will have varying start and end dates depending on the host board. RDSB courses will run from Wednesday, July 2, 2025 to Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Students are required to register with their home school Guidance Counsellor by Friday, June 20, 2025. For a full list of course offerings, students should contact their Guidance Counsellor.

Courses will run subject to sufficient enrolment and teacher availability.
