Rainbow Schools support Kids Helping Kids Food Drive

A.B. Ellis Public School
On Wednesday, December 3, 2014, from 9 am to 10:30 am, many of the Intermediate students at A.B. Ellis Public School in Espanola will be going door-door in neighbourhoods within walking distance of the school collecting non-perishable food items. These items will be donated to local food banks to help families in need during the upcoming holiday season and beyond. Community members are welcome to leave food items for pick up on their front steps. (Please ensure they are clearly visible.)

Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School will host a food drive starting Tuesday, December 2 through Friday, December 12, 2014. Staff and students will collect non-perishable food items, unwrapped children’s toys, gifts for teens, and cash donations for their “Assiginack Kids Helping Kids” event in support of the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank.

All cheques should be made payable to Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank. Tax receipts will be issued for donations over $10. The public is asked to mail cheques to PO Box 181, Mindemoya, ON P0P 1S0. Items collected will be delivered to Manitoulin Family Resources on Monday, December 15, 2014 in time for the Christmas baskets.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
Carl A. Nesbitt Public School hosted a kick off assembly on Friday, November 28, 2014 for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The goal this year is to collect 900 canned food items. On Monday, December 15, 2014, the school will host a Christmas Feast luncheon for students and their families. Cost is $5, with proceeds to support the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Staff and students encourage families to bring a non-perishable food item to the Christmas concert on Thursday, December 18, 2014, which will wrap up the food drive.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Students at Central Manitoulin Public School began their school-based food drive on Monday, December 1, 2014. Students and parents/guardians can also purchase holiday cards for $5, with proceeds to support the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank.

Charles C. McLean Public School
Staff and students at Charles C. McLean Public School will collect non-perishable food items starting until Friday, December 12, 2014. All items will be donated to the Manitoulin Family Resources Food Bank.

Chelmsford Public School
Chelmsford Public School has held numerous events to support the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive including hat days, pancake breakfasts, pajama days and a “kids vs. staff” floor hockey game. Non-perishable food items were required to participate. The top three students who brought in the most cans were treated to lunch.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2014, staff and students will participate in the Rainbow Kids Helping Kids Food Drive from 3 pm to 8 pm. KICX 91.7 will be live at the school for a tailgate party. Chili and hot chocolate will be served to community members who bring food donations. Families will also be canvassing the neighbourhood.

Students will also participate in the poster contest, as the reigning champions of last year’s Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Over 15,000 cans were raised.

Churchill Public School
Q92.7 will be live on location at Churchill Public School on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 7:30 am. Students, families and staff will host a tailgate party from 5 pm to 8 pm at the school. Participants will enjoy chili, buns and hot chocolate, followed by Zumba. Students will canvass local neighbourhoods for food donations from 5 pm until 8 pm.

Churchill Public School held their food drive kick off on Monday, November 17, 2014 and will continue to collect non-perishable food items through to Monday, December 15, 2014. Students will participate in a poster contest as well as a bake sale, dances and special spirit days with all funds going towards the food drive.

Copper Cliff Public School
Students at Copper Cliff Public School will compete in a school-based challenge to see who can collect the most non-perishable food items for this year’s Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Staff will also collect non-perishables as admission to the school Christmas concert taking place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

C.R. Judd Public School
C.R. Judd Public School collected 938 canned food items for Thanksgiving, which were donated to the Bread and Roses Food Bank in Capreol. All funds collected as admission to the school Christmas concert on Friday, December 12, 2014 will be donated.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
Ernie Checkeris Public School held a kick off event for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive on Friday, November 14, 2014. Staff and students set a goal to collect 750 canned food items.  Families are encouraged to bring a canned food item to the Christmas concert on Thursday, December 11, 2014 to wrap up the school food drive.

Lansdowne Public School
Staff at Lansdowne Public School will donate canned food items for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

Jean Hanson Public School
Students and staff from Jean Hanson Public School will collect non-perishable food items from family and friends in support of the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.

Levack Public School
Since late November, students at Levack Public School have been collecting non-perishable food items as part of the school canned food drive. All food collected will be donated to the local food bank serving the Levack and Onaping Falls areas. On Monday, December 1, 2014, a group of students took a bus to Cartier to view the CPR Holiday Train, where students donated non-perishable food items. On Wednesday, December 3, 2014, intermediate students will canvass surrounding neighbourhoods for non-perishable food items between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm.

Lively District Secondary School
Lively District Secondary School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids food drive. Cans will be collected throughout December.

MacLeod Public School
MacLeod Public School students will participate in a competition amongst classes to see who can collect the most non-perishable food items for the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. A tally of snowflakes, each representing 10 cans, is currently on display in the school’s main foyer. Staff and students will host MacLeod on a Mission, where Christmas cards are sold for $5 each. All proceeds will go to the Elgin Street Mission.

Monetville Public School
Students at Monetville Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive.  Food items can be dropped off at the school from Wednesday, December 3 through Monday, December 15, 2014. Donations will assist families in the French River Area.

Northeastern Elementary School
Throughout December, Northeastern Elementary School will host a series of events to collect its goal of 10,000 cans in support of the Garson and Sudbury Food Banks.

On Thursday, November 27, 2014, staff and students purchased delicious holiday treats during a school bake sale to raise funds for local food banks. Students will also collect non-perishable food items from friends and neighbours on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.

Students have the opportunity to challenge a teacher to a badminton match during gym class. The teacher will match all student donations. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, students participated in a one-hour Zumba marathon. Cost to participate was $8 or 8 non-perishable food items. A Spirit Day and staff vs. student volleyball game will take place on Friday, December 12, 2014. Admission is $1 or one non-perishable food item.

On Thursday, December 18, 2014, students can have a pancake breakfast with Santa for $1 or one non-perishable food item. Breakfast will include pancakes, ham and juice. During the meal, the army will be on site to pick up donated food items. As a thank you, they will be served breakfast. Q92.7 will be live on location at 8 am.

Pinecrest Public School
Pinecrest Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Non-perishable food items will be accepted as admission to the Christmas concert on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Student Parliament will canvass the neighbourhood collecting canned food items during the morning of Wednesday, December 3, 2014.

Redwood Acres Public School
Several classes at Redwood Acres Public School will participate in challenges to support the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive including a canned food sculpture contest and a dance party where admission is a non-perishable food item. Students and staff will also have candy canes for sale. All funds will be donated. Grade 5 classes will canvass the school neighbourhood on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 starting at 9 am.

S. Geiger Public School
Students at S. Geiger Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. Four spirit teams, white, yellow, red and black will compete for the most non-perishable food items donated to the Massey Food Bank. Student donations are welcome.

Valley View Public School
All grades at Valley View Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive from December 3rd to December 16th, 2014.  The food drive is run by the student council and Grade 6 students.

Walden Public School
Walden Public School students will participate in contests to support the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive. The first is a structure-building contest, where students will design and build a structure using non-perishable food items based on a winter theme. Also, the class to collect the most food items by Friday, December 12, 2014 will win a pizza party. Non-perishable food items will be collected until Wednesday, December 17, 2014.

Westmount Public School
ELK to Grade 2 students at Westmount Public School will bring home Kids Helping Kids grocery bags to collect food items to be picked up at the school on Monday, December 8, 2014. Students and staff will also participate in the Sudbury Food Bank Christmas card program where parents can purchase a $5 card in lieu of buying gifts for teachers.

Webbwood Public School
Students at Webbwood Public School will participate in the Kids Helping Kids Food Drive and welcome donations from members of their school community.  All proceeds will be donated to the Espanola Food Bank.
