Rainbow Schools welcome new Principals

Some of the Rainbow District School Board’s schools welcomed new Principals effective January 5, 2026.

Coleen Eberlein has been appointed as System Principal of Special Education Programs and Services. An educator with the Board for more than 25 years, Coleen Eberlein has extensive experience in literacy, intensive support, special education and student success. She received a Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury Outstanding Educator Award in 2011 and the William N. Roman Teacher of the Year Award in 2018. That same year, she was promoted Vice-Principal of Queen Elizabeth II Public School, where she remained until 2021. Most recently, she served as Principal of Levack Public School, Jean Hanson Public School and Westmount Avenue Public School. Principal Eberlein looks forward to working with schools in her new role as a system-wide administrator.

David Squarzolo has been appointed Principal of Special Education Programs and Services. David Squarzolo obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education from Nipissing University. In 1993, David Squarzolo began his career with the Sudbury Board of Education. He has taught a variety of classes across multiple grades including Intensive Support Programs, and has supported students as a Special Education Resource Teacher and Special Education Coordinator. In 2018, he was promoted to Vice-Principal at A.B. Ellis Public School. He also served as Vice-Principal at Jean Hanson Public School and Principal of the Summer Program for Special Education. In 2023, David Squarzolo was appointed as Vice-Principal of Special Education Programs and Services. Principal Squarzolo is thrilled to share his experience as a system-wide administrator.

Shannon Lafrance has been appointed Principal of Jean Hanson Public School. Shannon Lafrance began her career with Rainbow District School Board at Wembley Public School and the Ruth MacMillan Centre. She taught Special Education and Kindergarten at Redwood Acres Public School for 14 years. Shannon Lafrance was promoted to an administrative role as Vice-Principal of Redwood Acres Public School, then Churchill Public School. She also served as Vice-Principal of MacLeod Public School for six years before being appointed as Principal of Monetville Public School in 2023. Principal Lafrance is excited to bring her energy and experience to Jean Hanson Public School.

Kim Yagnych has been appointed Principal of Monetville Public School. Kim Yagnych has worked in education since 2009. She obtained an Early Childhood Education Diploma from Cambrian College, a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education through Laurentian University, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Elementary and Middle School Education at Mount Saint Vincent University. Kim Yagnych began her career in the intensive support program at Redwood Acres Public School. She has taught students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and served as a Special Education Resource Teacher before being promoted to Vice-Principal at Princess Anne Public School in 2024. Kim Yagnych is passionate about student success and building strong school communities. Principal Yagnych is thrilled to join the staff, students, families and the entire community of Monetville.
