Rainbow students, choirs and bands honoured at Kiwanis Music Festival

Many students, choirs and bands from Rainbow Schools were recognized at the Final Concert of the Kiwanis Music Festival on Monday, April 15, 2013.

“Rainbow District School Board extends its congratulations to all Kiwanis participants and award winners,” said Board Chair Doreen Dewar. “Organizers of the Kiwanis Music Festival have a long-standing tradition of honouring excellence in music in our community. We thank them for their dedicated efforts on behalf of our students and staff.”

The following were recommended to the Ontario Music Festival Association Provincial Finals to be held in Peterborough in June – Ruthie Nkut of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, the Sudbury Secondary School Star Fire Repertoire Choir under the direction of Stéphane Ostrander, the Lockerby Composite School Intermediate Concert Band under the direction of Stephanie Tagliabracci, Jake Deeth of Sudbury Secondary School and Alana Sorgini of Lockerby Composite School.

Both the Chrissie Nemis Memorial Award for Top Intermediate Vocal and the Warna Timlock Memorial Award for Music Theatre were awarded to Ruthie Nkut of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School.

The Sudbury Secondary School Star Fire Repertoire Choir, under the direction of Stéphane Ostrander, received the Chrissie Nemis Memorial Award for Best Secondary School Choir.

The Lockerby Composite School Intermediate Concert Band, under the direction of Stephanie Tagliabracci, received the Rainbow District School Board Award for Best Secondary School Intermediate Band.

Jake Deeth of Sudbury Secondary School received the Gwen Robbins Award for Intermediate Vocal – Second Place Standing.

Lindsay Boland and Claire Romani of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School were awarded the Muriel Jean White Memorial Award for Best Intermediate Piano Duet.

Alana Sorgini of Lockerby Composite School received the Rainbow District School Board Award for Intermediate Piano – Second Place.

Julien Therrien of Lockerby Composite School received the Rainbow District School Board Award for Intermediate Strings – Honourable Mention.

Amelia Saari of Walden Public School was awarded the St. John’s Choir and Melody Chimers Award for Top Junior Vocal.

Tia Kontoniemi of Princess Anne Public School was awarded the St. John’s Choir and Melody Chimers Award for Top Junior Vocal.

Rachael Contini of Princess Anne Public School received the ORMTA Award for Junior Strings – Honourable Mention.

Cydney Tinkham of R. L. Beattie Public School received the Rainbow District School Board Award for Junior Strings – Honourable Mention.

Nicole Conlin of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School received the Kiwanis Club of Sudbury Award for Intermediate Strings – Honourable Mention.

Jenna Seguin of Churchill Public School received the Rainbow District School Board Award for Speech Arts and Drama – Honourable Mention.
