What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

Registrations ongoing at the N’Swakamok Alternative School

Indigenous learners 17 years and older can earn credits towards their high school diploma at the N’Swakamok Alternative School located in the N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre.

Course material is presented through an Indigenous lens, with credits possible via e-learning, Co-operative Education, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) and hands-on learning.

“Students receive individualized support within a friendly community,” says Principal Heather Downey. “Students also have access to many programs and services including small and large group instruction.”

She adds: “Holistic, cultural and land-based activities meet the needs of our Indigenous learners.”

Courses include Math, English, Media, Canadian History, Parenting, Foods, Science, Civics, Careers, Physical Education and Aboriginal Beliefs and Values.
