“Franco-Rainbow is one of many authentic experiences that serve to promote the French culture among our Core French and French Immersion students,” said Norm Blaseg, Director of Education for Rainbow District School Board.  “Students not only explored French music, they also memorized French songs and honed their listening skills. In addition, they worked in groups, which emphasized oral communication and team building skills. And they practiced their French by participating in an activity that was fast-paced and fun.”

Core French, which is part of the English Program, is offered daily beginning in Grade 1. The aim of the Core French program is to develop basic communication skills in French and an understanding of the nature of the language, as well as an appreciation of French culture in Canada and in other parts of the French-speaking world. The Core French program offers students the opportunity to develop a basic usable command of the French language that can be expanded through further study at the secondary school level.

French Immersion, which provides a balance of English and French instruction in Rainbow Schools, immerses students in the French language including cultural experiences.  The French Immersion program provides students with the skills they need to communicate in a second language, thereby enhancing their ability to perform effectively and meet with success in a rapidly changing global economy.
