Saturday, June 22: Empowering Parents to Raise Resilient Children

The 2018-2019 school year is drawing to a close with an important conference on mental health. The Rainbow District School Board Parent Involvement Committee will present “Empowering Parents to Raise Resilient Children” with keynote speaker Dr. Adèle Lafrance on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

This free conference by parents for parents takes place from 9 am to 2 pm at Lockerby Composite School, 1391 Ramsey View Court in Sudbury. Everyone is welcome. Child care will be available on site. Lunch will also be provided.

Dr. Adèle Lafrance is an Associate Professor at Laurentian University, a clinical psychologist, and co-developer of Emotion-Focused Family Therapy. As co-director of Mental Health Foundations, Dr. Lafrance provides consultations and training for clinicians, school boards and mental health agencies worldwide.

A passionate advocate, Dr. Adèle Lafrance supports parents/guardians and caregivers as they take care of their loved ones. Her address will inform, educate, inspire and empower. Parents will learn family-friendly tips and tools that will help with healing and recovery.

In addition to the keynote, participants will take part in two workshops:
FLIP IT! Transforming Challenging Behaviour (Kindergarten)
From LEGOs to iPhones (Grades 2 to 6)
Transitions: From Tween to Teen (Grades 7 and 8)
Whatever! (Grades 9 to 12)
Holistic Arts Based Program: An Introduction (For all ages)
Children and Grief (For all ages)

9:30 am to 11 am – Keynote Address with Dr. Adèle Lafrance
11:15 am to 12 pm – Workshop # 1
12 pm to 1:15 pm – Lunch (provided)
