Student produced cookbook serves up resilience with rack of lamb
A Grade 12 student from Lasalle Secondary School who has been cooking since Kindergarten has his own published cookbook thanks to Make-A-Wish® Canada.
My Wish on a Plate! Just Ty It! combines Ty Chauvin’s favourite recipes with others from family and friends. The appetizers, soups, sides, sauces, mains and desserts are a feast for the eyes as much as the palate. You can almost taste those barbecued ribs!
This cookbook, however, is about so much more than Chef Ty’s personal passion. It’s a brilliant reflection of a resilient young man determined to achieve his goals.
Ty Chauvin was diagnosed with multiple health issues at birth, including heart disease. Throughout his 17 years, he has had multiple surgeries. Only recently, he discovered that he has a rare genetic syndrome.
Ty’s story unfolds from the first page to the last through heartwarming photos from childhood, endearing notes from family, friends and health care providers, and wonderful wishes from a team of supporters.
Despite the challenges, Ty perseveres. He never gives up and is an inspiration to many. His determination is evident in all the things he has endured, overcome and accomplished.
When he was granted a wish from Make-A-Wish® Canada, only one wish stood out for him. His very own cookbook. Ty is a giver, so he invited others to join him on his culinary journey.
Some of the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will be donated to three organizations that are dear to his heart – Make-A-Wish® Canada, The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and NEO Kids in Sudbury.
To purchase a copy of Ty’s cookbook, in print or electronic format, please email [email protected] or visit Ty’s website at https://www.mywishonaplate.com/cook-book.
And, as Chef Ty says on the back of his cookbook, flour flying in mid-air, “That’s a Wrap!”
