What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

Students challenged to imagine and create in 21st century learning environments

Rainbow District School Board’s community based secondary schools will share a total of $300,000 to transform traditional classrooms into 21st century learning environments. The investment was approved at the regular meeting of the Board on Tuesday, March 22, 2016.

Confederation Secondary School, Chelmsford Valley District Composite School, Espanola High School, Lasalle Secondary School, Lively District Secondary School and Manitoulin Secondary School will receive $50,000 in the current school year. Each school has developed an implementation plan that responds to their respective school community.

“21st century classrooms engage students in learning activities that build 21st century skills, including creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking and citizenship,” said Director of Education Norm Blaseg.

He added: “Students solve complex problems and demonstrate their learning using modern technology in spaces that are flexible, dynamic and innovative. Picture classrooms with green screens, whiteboards, robotics, smart TVs, laptops, iPads, and 3D printers where students are challenged to imagine and create.”

Rainbow District School Board made a commitment to offer additional supports to community based secondary schools following the review of magnet programs.
