Students honoured during N’Swakamok graduation ceremony

Eleven students earned their Ontario Secondary School Diploma at the N’Swakamok Native Alternative School’s graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 7, 2018.

The celebration took place at the N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre where family, friends, staff and community members joined together to honour student success.

“It is a thrill to watch as these students celebrate the fruits of their labour,” said N’Swakamok Native Alternative School Principal Bob Deeth. “We extend our congratulations to all students.”

Added Program Co-ordinator Kelly-Lee Assinewe: “We are very proud of the work that the students have accomplished this year. It is with great pride that we send these students on their next journey”.

About N’Swamaok Native Alternative School

The N’Swakamok Native Alternative School is a partnership with Sudbury Secondary School and the N’Swakamok Native Friendship Centre.

To attend the school, First Nations, Métis and Inuit students must be a minimum of 16 years old and out of school for a period of time. Students work at their own pace on independent learning courses modified to include Native content. Students receive one-on-one assistance from teachers.

The N’Swakamok Native Alternative School has been in operation for 28 years and has graduated over 250 students.
