Students participate in Sudbury Regional Science Fair on April 14 and 15

A number of Grade 7 and 8 students from Rainbow Schools will participate in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair being held at Laurentian University on April 14 and 15, 2012.

The students won the honour of competing at the regional level following the Rainbow District School Board’s annual Elementary Science Fair held at Lockerby Composite School on March 6, 2012. Sudbury Regional Science Fair projects will be selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island from May 12 to 19, 2012.

Rainbow District School Board Chair Doreen Dewar congratulated all science fair participants and extended best wishes to students as they move forward. “Every significant discovery in the world began with an idea and that idea, through research and investigation, led to innovations that improved our quality of life,” said Chair Dewar.

“Every year, I am amazed at the depth and the breadth of the research that is carried out in all areas – be it earth sciences, the environment or engineering,” added Chair Dewar. “The projects are a tribute to the ability of our young scientists to let their natural curiosity guide them as they observe, question and explore the world around them. We wish students continued success as they vie for a chance to compete nationally.”

Working on science fair projects gives students an opportunity to capitalize on their natural curiosity to inquire and learn. Students actively engage in authentic learning when they investigate questions that are real. In the process, they enhance their scientific skills and further develop interests in possible careers in the field of science.

Congratulations to all students participating in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair:
