What’s happening in Rainbow Schools?

Students participate in Sudbury Regional Science Fair on April 9 and 10

A number of Grade 7 and 8 students from Rainbow Schools will participate in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair being held at Laurentian University on April 9 and 10, 2011.

The students won the honour of competing at the regional level following the Rainbow District School Board’s annual Elementary Science Fair held at Lockerby Composite School on March 9, 2011. Sudbury Regional Science Fair projects will be selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Toronto from May 14 to 21, 2011.

Rainbow District School Board Chair Tyler Campbell congratulated all science fair participants and extended his best wishes to students as they move forward. “The Elementary Science Fair is the first step on the journey to higher levels of competition where students share their scientific discoveries with judges who are professionals in their fields,” said Chair Campbell. He added: “Every year, we continue to be amazed by the breadth of the topics and the depth of research being carried out by our young scientists. We wish students continued success as they vie for a chance to compete nationally.”

Working on science fair projects gives students an opportunity to capitalize on their natural curiosity to inquire and learn. Students actively engage in authentic learning when they investigate questions that are real. In the process, they enhance their scientific skills and further develop interests in possible careers in the field of science.

Congratulations to all students participating in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair:
